Subscription Rates

Is it true that sirius/XM will raise their monthly rates on Mar 10, unless you take a long term subscription?
Also are they going to charge to listen online if you don't subcribe longer term?
If they do this I'm gone.

Rates for your second, third, etc. radio will be increased 2 bucks to $8.99 per month and online streams will be (I believe) $2.99 a month for current subs (no more free streaming) and will be high quality 128K MP3 streams only.

Thanks Scanman. IMO, they've got alot of nerve raising prices in this environment and with their current financial troubles. If I can't continue to listen online with my current subcription then I will drop them.

As a foreword, let me say that I am not defending Mel or Sirius/XM in any way regarding the rate increase (that according to the merger agreement was NOT supposed to happen). What I am saying is that as someone who could care less about the politics involved, as someone who just wants to hear the programming, as someone who can't even begin to hear the variety and styles available on SAT-RAD anywhere else, I am not about to unsubscribe. No, I don't like the increase. But for fifty cents a day, which is miles and miles less than my cable bill, I have it all in the way of audio entertainment with the XM Family-Best of Sirius in the car, and at home and at work online. Jeez, a coke out of the machine at work cost $1.25 now and only lasts until I drink it or it sits there and gets hot and stale and I dump half of it out. I have the entire world of sports and music for half a buck a day. Maybe I am naive regarding some of the issues here, but for crying out loud, how can anyone bash what SAT-RAD costs and delivers in return?

For me it's the principle. They simply shouldn't even think about raising rates in this economy and with all the problems they (sirius/xm) have financially. As far as I'm concerned they can go down the drain. I'll be listening to my CDS and iPod.

I think that the timing is just plain bad. Sirus/XM is still in the process of stabilizing their programming. They are combining channels, dropping programming, and changing schedules. So far it's all negative on the channel I listen to most (Channel 5). I'd be a fool to renew my subscription until I see what the final product looks like.

That's exactly how I feel. One of my artist presets right now is Jan and Dean, and they've been showing up on channel 5 more than 6. Ilove hearing the songs, but that just doesn't make sense (unless, of course, they are prepping us for a consolidation ???). My favorite is Deep Tracks. It has changed, and the net isn't for the better, but not all the changes have been bad. Play list seems to have narowed overall though, and many songs now aren't "deep". So I'm sitting pat on my subscription status while I communicate my feelings and requests to them. How that turns out will be part of my renewal decision. And btw, in spite of the "threats" to the contrary, after a system reset at midnight, my "free" online service is still working (as I expect it to thru October).

As of now I'm going to let my subscription expire in April. I can't see renewing it if they're going to charge extra for online listening. I often listen at home while I'm working, but now I'll just play my MP3s.
