Successful All-News Stations

Of course the difference is that Entercom doesn't own a traffic & weather service, and iHeart does.

Really?

On 'BZ, the on-air anchor at :04, :14, :34, :44 quotes from some written AccuWeather forecast.

On, 'RKO, weather is provided by The Weather Channel.

So, where is iHeart's "weather" service?

I have no problem with, and actually like, their traffic reports; its traffic service is a very fine one.

I don't hear much of their "news" broadcasts any more, on either 'RKO or Talk 1200; they gave that job to 'BZ.

So, does iHeart REALLY own a news/traffic/weather service, or is it now pretty much just traffic?

When I was working in the media business, I asked one of my coworkers why no one was challenging WBZ at all? Like what David has said already, was that running a new station is very expensive!

I used to time my day by WBZ's news model. I almost always knew what time it was, as they always had certain features during exact parts of the hour! The only time that I would thrown off was after :03 to :10, and :33 to :40 after that, because they didn't anything specifically timed during those times at all, except for just regular news

"Business news at :08 and :38 minutes past each hour." That was the tag used by MarketWatch and Bloomberg before iHeart eliminated it. And, yes, WBZ was announcing the time VERY frequently, so you knew exactly how you were progressing in your morning routine getting ready for work/school. Alas, because the iHeart stream has an average delay of TWO minutes, the anchors now give the time way less frequently.

Speaking of AccuWeather, WBZ's former sister station KYW in Philadelphia dropped AccuWeather in 2014. They've been using the local CBS-TV weatherman for the past six years, and this month, they switched to the local NBC-TV weatherman. It's part of the station's new deal with NBC.
