SUMMER 07 RATINGS

??? Looking at today's ratings, I see the slide of TQR and a few of the other stations losing ground, however, I don't see where the lost shares went? Prehaps they have just been diluted among all the stations.. Looks like quite a few remained stagnant.

Let the idiscussion begin! BIG APE!

Well.....the Urban stations and the Gospel stations are up and all the Country stations show a decline. I'd say it's a sampling thang. My guess is it's a Forsyth County heavy book. Notice how well WSJS did (not that they haven't improved and deserve to be up), but there is a higher percentage of black listeners in Forsyth county and I think this book reflects their listening more than other counties. Just an educated guess. ;)

Don't know whether to laugh or cry over WRDU. How pathetic is that? :-\

Summer book seldom means much. While it may indicate a trend, many (particularly adult) formats don't do as well in the summer. The real test for the main stream stations will be the Fall 07 book!

Certainly, TQR is showing weakness, but The Wolf didn't do that well either. I think the real answer is sample shift rather than real losses.

I agree 100% Mike about the Summer book .... BUT there will be SOME organizations here that will take it to the grave if they had a good book or a competitor had a bad book. I firmly believe that M_F 6a-7p A 25-54 is the money demo daypart ... Since I won't be back till Monday I was curious how that brokedown in Greensboro, especially Kiss and QMG, MAG / Simon and WTQR and Wolf. That is the real shake up in GSO.

Nice job with WRDU Clear Channel. Freaking idiots.

UHHH those idiots would be Bruce Logan and that Bohannon character....strategic thinkers...pass the bourbon would ya? 1.6? BTW what smells?

RDU was a mistake for sure but they might be onto something with the River and KISS. Both stations are hanging in there. QDR has proven its mettle fighting off two country attacks at one time and still holding onto #1. WRAL looks to be rebounding some but KISS must might pass them this book. Kind of makes you wonder if Xmas music would make sense.

well I'll answer my own question

I thought WSJS got their big bump from getting hannity sometime earlier this year. Also, doesn't that create in-house competition between two curtis stations, since WZTK has alan handleman at the same time, or am I comparing apples and pineapples? I'll admit, I favor ZTK because of the variety within their format, and I really want to see them do well, but those numbers are.....well, stagnant, at best. does anyone know, are they becoming a a daypart leader in morning or aft drive. The few times I've heard their morning show (i sleep till noon except mondays), they had some fairly high profile guests. Does that mean they have enough stature to get these guests, or is it a sign of desperation to grab at every celeb who's pushing a book, documentary etc. Pardon my ignorance, but most of my experience has been at small mkt stations with tinfoil transmitters, so I have to ask these basic questions to get up to speed on how it all works in the big leagues

Notice that WMKS is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY behind WQMG. That in itself is a clear message that CC should, if not outright flip the station, at least rebrand it. They could model it after WKSL and keep the current Kiss name, calls, etc. Or they could rebrand WMKS as a Top 40--- again, keeping the Kiss name and calls--- and go after 107.5 KZL. And do something about that weak-as-dishwater signal...

I think CC and WMKS should realize that in this market Tom Joyner is King in the morning and that putting Steve Harvey against him is fighting a losing battle. I agree that they should change formats and and attempt to reach out to the people more and lose a little of the syndicated programming and give the people announcers that they can meet and relate to. Steve Harvey, Michael Baisden, and Keith Sweat are all in syndication and not in this area so most of their programming day is with announcers that are not even in the market. This was the mistake that 94.5 attempted when they attacked 102 Jamz and lost miserably.

I think the same fate is in store for 105.7.

I believe there is enough difference between WSJS and WZTK that both can exists, and make money! SJS's strength comes from Forsyth County while ZTK's strenght is in the eastern part of the metro. ZTK also takes advantage of listeners in the Raleigh Durham Market and they do a great job of selling the combined number.

SJS has listeners in the eastern part of the market, but very little advertising from Guilford or Alamance counties.

Been looking at some county breakouts .... interesting .... the stations that had really good books did great in Forsyth County ..... the ones that took hits overall .... had really weak Forsyth rank. Forsyth had a slight over survey and Guilford was slightly under surveyed based on county in-tab. Interesting as there are big differences in the Guilford and Forsyth rankings .... I don't ever rememebr seeing them so different.

I would agree although I am curious of whether Kiss' ratings is more a product of QMG's heritage vs the syndication aspect. They really have no community presence in addition to the fact that the The Sweat Hotel is TERRIBLE!!!

Ding ding ding! We have a winner! You now get to spin the format wheel and find out what's next for WMKS!

WRDU is so bad off, that WPAW is actually beating it in several demos and handily crushes them in the western part of the Raleigh metro area. I think that is a testament to the contemporary approach WPAW takes compared to the same old tired CC stations in both WRDU and WTQR. Looks to me like Mr. Bohannon has his hands full.

Why they don't just relaunch classic rock is beyond me. JB&B were kings of WRDU when it was classic rock and they have double the ratings of the rest of the station. They just don't match well with country, but it is very apparent Raleigh needs a real classic rock station not this pretender that is WRVA.

Right on! That's an idea! Relaunch 106.1 RDU like CBS Radio did with WCBS-FM in NYC, shunting The Rooster over to HD-2. Then bring back the original AAA-flavored River, and keep the indy-hit channel on its HD-2.
Speaking of HD-2, has anyone heard when the other HD-2 stations in the CC-Raleigh cluster will be online? The G'boro ones have been online awhile now, as has WRVA's HD-2 channel.
