Sunny 98.5 Panama City

As far I know the rain chances will go lower beside 90% or 70% we been having this week well it will go back down to 40% then clear out by Sunday back to sunshine to late of the weekend into monday. That the weather I have for now for north florida and south Georiga and Northwest Florida. The cold front is about to kick this upper level low out as dryier weather returns hopefully Saturday Night or early Sunday.

Today is 5/21/13 and still Sunny 98.5 is still on low power. Any updates lately. Last time yall said that the 25 year old (something) need to replace.

Andrew (the company that makes Heliax transmission line) did not have 1125 feet of line in stock and is having to manufacture it. Hopefully we will have the line in the next 2 to 3 weeks....thank goodness we have the backup site (even though it only covers the metro)

Allways delay things...

Would you have CC allow Sunny to end up like PFM by taking shortcuts or using off the shelf parts? Charlie's won awards for doing this shat right the first time. How they manage to keep him trapped in PC, no one knows...

cceng is as good a radio engineer as there ever was. He will do it the right way.

Coming home from Blountstown Sunday evening we picked up WPAP all the way to Tallahassee. Only when the FSU translator on 92.7 stated blleding in did we lose it..on North Monroe Street in Tally.

I'm thinking AM/FM radio engiernierineringings is just Charlie's hobby. I think is main interest is smoking hams.

So let's just say that as little as I even claim to know about transmitters and strobey things and aluminum foil, I want to know why no one at Powell or whoever did the antenna tower work on the PFM upgrade:

2.) Didn't anyone really get a survey? Hell, for a little 12k in Nashvegass, there were sixteen (16) survey thingys and it was worth a couple of million longterm.

5.) Like couldn't someone have done a tower test type thing like they do in Evanston, IN on a tower there to test the pattern of the antenna and figure out the nulls and metal work issues or something. Help me CCENG.

11.) Not sure but maybe the guy wire lines might need something like expensive plastic or something, but that's kind of just a guess.

Now, CCENG real question is what can Powell do to fix the issue, if it really even matters. Maybe they just want better penetration in Bay County to he'll with anything else and they got it. Can any stations spring up in the adjusted pattern, etc?

Finally, is the curse of 107.9 just never going to be broken since the golden year(s)?

I apologize. I put this post in here for CCENG to figure out what the heck i am talking about and yet it should have been on the WPFM post. Dammit. Nothing like putting my post on the wrong tower....

Panama City's known as the place you wake up in the middle of the afternoon sick as a dog and realize you just put your post on the wrong... nevermind..

Tibbs.....yes, they could have patterned the antenna on the ERI test range in Indiana, and yes if there were guy wires in the near field of the antenna, they could have been replaced with 30 or 40 foot big ass fiberglass rods.

I'm tired...ate too much smoked ham in Dayton....and drank tooooooooo many beers.....some nice IPAs from Wisconsin just to name a few.

I wonder how many listeners they will lose because of this. Did they notify the FCC they were running on flea power? So far, their FB page has only 3 complaints about them being off the air. That should say something about how far this station has been reaching their demographic audience. They would be getting more responses if their popularity was up. It just means their listeners will move up to 100.1 FM which is even lower in power but their music is identical to 98.5's

I know cceng is as good a radio engineer I was just saying it been like 3 months now since Sunny 98.5 been on low power with some delay on a few things to get it done. Yes I know WPFM and WFSY at the same time lately.

Yes, I'm sure he's one of the best. It's just a hunch being off the air for 2 months has an effect on ratings. and it's not his fault, neither.

The day I ever get the $$ to have an 80 foot tower up in my backyard.. I'm calling cceng!

(I love towers, dishes and antennas..)

It probably covers most of Panama City okay. My stepdaughter lives around the Springfield area, and it is listenable there.

At least Sunny has a back up site. The majority of Tally stations do not.

Yes Sunny 98.5 has thier backup power running in the local areas of Panama City You can also hear Sunny 98.5 on iheartradio app on your smartphone or online.

As far as I recall 100% of the official ratings for Panama City radio stations are recorded in Bay county. They also only check the ratings every 6 months. I doubt this will be anything more than a blip on the graph.

If CC was all that concerned they would have increased the spending limit on Charlie's corporate Visa card. Then again, maybe they did and he bought a pickup load of Gin and hams instead... Mmmm, hams. ;)

you guys have to realize that what we are having to do is basically build an antenna and transmission line system from scratch just as if we were putting a radio station on for the very first time...NOTHING could be reused ....it doesn't matter how much money you have, both items have to be CUSTOM manufactured....Andrew doesn't simply keep 1125 feet of 3 inch Heliax sitting on the shelf. Cost was not a factor...I can tell you that if CC could have payed more for some kind of expedited delivery, they would have done so.....it simply isn't possible to run down to parts store and pick up almost $100,000 worth of parts to fix the system....it had to be replaced and the cost will be almost $100K...there was never any argument from CC about spending the money....I want to make that perfectly clear.

Yeah, it ought to come into Springfield "listenable" Alan McCall, the backup site is in Springfield.....I'm sure it is a lot more than listenable....

Oh, while I have the floor, Rob....Rob....Rob.....if you think that 100.1 and Sunny98 play the same kind of music, then you need to have a LONG LONG talk with Tibbs about programming. I am sure Tibbs would simply love to talk to you on the phone and 'splain dat stuff.....I have his number if you want it ;D

I hope it's been obvious that I've been ribbing on you CCENG. This is a very stressful time of year for me, sometimes stress makes me really funny... sometimes I make people very angry. I think I'm handling things pretty well so far this month... although I almost wound up in the emergency room by the end of the day Monday. If I had a ride available I would have gone. I didn't want to call 911. And I lived through it. Yeah!
