SUNNY AND WJJZ AIRSTAFF GONE, FORMAT FLIP ON THURSDAY

Rumblings in Bala Cynwyd show that the airstaff at both Clear Channel AC Sunny 104.5 (WNSI) and Smooth Jazz 106.1 (WJJZ) have been let go. A format flip for both stations is apparent with Sunny flipping to Rock (like CLEAR CHANNEL'S DC101 (WWDC) IN WASHINGTON, D.C.) and Smooth Jazz 106.1 flipping to the Rhythmic AC (like CBS RHYTHMIC AC MIX 102.7 (WNEW) IN NEW YORK).

Wish 106.1 would flip to Comtemporary Dance instead of the tired old Bee Gees,Madonna,Donna Summer Rhythmic AC/Classic Dance format that WNEW and WKTU is giving New York.

I find it rather interesting that this flip will happen just weeks after the yrock on xpn announcement as well as a few weeks before the yrock on xpn debut. Clear Channel seems to be trying to combat the possible momentum of xpn.

While those 2 domains aren't a secret, the fact my1061.com redirects to phillys1061, probably means 106 will be called Philly's 106-1, and not my106, or anyother name.

WJJZ could just flip both streams, making "The River" the main signal. Then, they could put this Rhythmic AC on 104.5. Naaaaaahh, makes too much sense.

maybe 106.1 will air smooth jazz on HD-2. (any station in Philly airing anything yet on HD-3 ?) I doubt any other station in Philly will pick up smooth jazz. it's a dying format. wonder how long WQCD --NYC will stick with it?

Apparently, Clear Channel is only flipping WJJZ, putting the Rhythmic AC format on that frequency, and leaving the 104.5 frequency for dead, air that is. Sunny 104.5 will go dark tomorrow as well. No word on IF a new format will premiere on the 104.5 frequency
