SUNNY AND WJJZ AIRSTAFF GONE, FORMAT FLIP ON THURSDAY

you can't be serious! clear channel will continue to air some format on 104.5 I'm sure.

Believe me, I agree with you 100%! This IS Clear Channel we're talking about here. They would rather air a cricket and sell time during that then run dead air! LOL

Everybody who's wishing upon that Dance Music star, is forgetting what Clear Channel is experimenting with in other markets..with considerable succcess in some cases: FM Talk. Their product in Pittsburgh is on the move, with a great morning show, "Quinn & Rose". It's the one market position under-served in Philadelphia, and with no WWDB, it's about time. Their version of FM talk is hotter, hipper, fresher, less geriatric than WWDB, and with all that youth cume on the FM dial, the sharing patterns may be enough to get the sort of demos they want to sell.

It's pathetic to think that the demos that WJJZ delivered are no longer viable.

Will we be seeing the arrival of "104.5 The Buzz"? Or perhaps something similar to Clear Channels "Brew" format from the midwest? I'm betting something similar to "Star 98.7" in LA...but that is just my personal opinion. If we can't have a "full blown" alternative station than one would hope we might get something similar to "Star" in LA, or CBS Radio "Alice @97.3" in San Francisco. As for 106.1 I have to agree with the rhythmic AC format. Makes sense. Could all of this be a move to somewhat block Greater Media plans for 97.5? I'm betting 97.5 goes country....but that is a whole other thread. :)

CC's "Brew" format originated in Detroit (as "The Drive") a few years ago. It just flipped to country. Not much of a success, obviously. "The Brew" itself originated in Milwaukee, and played a lot of 80s-era corporate rock and hair metal. More Loverboy and Poison than should be allowed, IMO. Ratings for the first year or so were spectacular, then the competition regrouped and pounded the crap out of the Brew. They have repositioned, and now play a lot of mellow ballads from Loverboy, Poison, Journey, Richard Marx, etc. They can't decide (as is often typical of CC) whether to stick to rock or become AC. I consider it to be strictly an 80s hits station, no matter how much they claim to rock (yeah, right!). CC also rolled out "The Brew" in Columbus and Omaha, with some quick ratings success. But, like their counterparts, the music will burnout quickly, leading to decline. This format is good for some quick ratings success, but nothing really substantial long-term.

And kfsr pointed out that FM Talk is another CC brainstorm. Basically, CC has done this in Pittsburgh to great success. They did it in Madison, WI - this time with progressive talk. Big success. Then Minneapolis. So far, in the first eight months, a total bomb. CC's FM talkers are basically their typical AM talk stations, but on the FM band. Nothing groundbreaking here, just Rush Limbaugh that doesn't fade out under bridges. This is done in places where they don't have good enough AM signals, or, in the case of Madison and Minneapolis, don't want to blow up successful AM operations. Different horse, same manure.

I just can't believe it! What will John Tesh do?!?! Seriously, I hope Jen Ryan lands on her feet again soon.

Excuse me, but if Sunny's airstaff is gone and they are now "jockless", how come we still have Donna Rowland on right now at 12:58 PM and they are still running promos for tomorrow's John Tesch program?

Fill us in on the latest rumor if you please.

Regards.............

Any human voice you now here on WJJZ or WSNI is likely voicetracked! ( was Brian Check at the door yesterday to hand out parting gifts to those humans fired? Or ----was he sitting in his office---- or on vacation ? )

Here's another update. This is not confirmed just the latest rumors:

WJJZ will probably be rhythmic AC with Whoopie in the morning

WSNI may go Spanish- probably tropical.

BTW I did get 10 type 1 90 minute tapes. I do plan to record the 2-7 PM shift on WJJZ and 7 PM-12 AM on WSNI Tonight. BTW I won't be on the Computer from 8 PM Tonight until 11 AM Tomorrow, so If you want to e-mail me about when I should record the format flips on the 2 stations, please contact me Via e-mail or PM.

Well, except maybe traffic, altough in Philly you could probably voice track that on most days. For example. Schuylkill expressway westbound is jammed all the way from center city to the turnpike. Eastbound is also jammed from an earlier overturned truck. I95 south is jammed from the sirport to rt322 interchange, north is jammed from center city to the bridge street exit. In New Jersey 42 is bumper to bumper from the walt whitman to rt55, and either 295 or the NJ turnpike has a major accident, and we advise you to take either 295/NJ turnpike instead.

This is not a rumor just a thought. A Christian Pop "FISH" style format. They seem to keep their head above water (no pun intended) in other major markets like Chicago. STAR 99.1 in Central NJ tries to pass itself off as a New York station. Why not one in Philly? CC does this format in other places. It's different from the rest of the generic format ideas.

Since Terri Webb left, the writing was on the wall. As for 104.5, no big deal...Donna Rowland could find a job. This market for radio formats is stale. Been to Dallas among other markets and find least 2 local sports radio shows, least 2-3 rock formats. What
on-air staffers will these stations recruit from; Anchorage, Bismarck. Surely not anyone
in the top 20 or 30 markets. Thats the problem with a media co. aka Clear Channel where they have ownership to 3-4-5 stations here. Can you virtual suicide to even
jock with 'tons' of experience.

WOW looks like some exciting times for radio buffs in Philly Town... With JJZ maybe going the rhythmic AC route I got to looking at the Music Lab that CC has and could a format like Cosmos Lounge wind up on 106.1... If fits the bill of a rhythmic AC but could use any name to fit what CC would want it to be... Gotta run but just wnated to throw it out for the taking... CC1

This from pirate Jim web site; Jennifer Ryan exits mornings at Hot AC WSNI/Philadelphia, with major rumblings of more Philly Clear Channel changes on the horizon at both "Sunny" and Smooth Jazz WJJZ.

Julius: I'm glad to hear that you will be monitoring the stations yourself, via "tape delay" so to speak. Please let us know your findings. In my opinion, it's easier for you to monitor the stations yourself instead of asking others to do it.

Also, I doubt that ESPN Radio will move to an FM station in the Philadelphia market. I'm afraid that you're stuck with listening to Jim Rome and others on 920 AM out of Trenton. Of course, you can get J.T. The Dick (I mean...Brick) and Fox Sports Radio on 950 AM. How come you're not satisfied with one of the two nationally syndicated sports networks on WPEN?

Ok for everyobdy who is wondering how u still hear D.J.'s at Sunny 104.5 I can definetly explain that to u. Sunny has & was always a low budget runned station. There D.J.'s were never live on the air they were always voice tracked. What they would do is come in once a week & voice track there show 4 the whole week & get paid like $150 for doing it. The only one's who were ever live at the station were the traffic reporters Jennifer Ryan & Laura Tortella. So sunny is using the voice tracked shows they already paid for until they blow the station up. Also it's true that the airstaff of Sunny & WJJZ were fired yesterday it happened at 8:15 am. Just got to philly.com & type in WJJZ u will see the article that was in today's Inquirer/Daily News sayin it happened. Hope That clears it up for u.

I think that ESPN radio is better than FOX sports radio because they have the national play by play sports, something we can't hear on 920 AM WPHY because of their signal in Philadelphia south and east. That is the problem, the station has a poor signal and thus we can't hear it. The Philly stations that don't air the play by play winds up on 920 AM. I hope that Nassau will do something and finally be a Philly sports station with a Philly signal. I will not rest until this play by play thing is solved in Philadelphia Radio. Anyway back to the topic at hand, what's the latest update. if you went to the WJJZ/WSNI studios today, is anyone doing some last minute things to the boards and computers at the 2 stations in Bala Cynwyd ?

If you go to Sunny 104.5 and click on discover new music it takes you the rock page. Why would a upbeat oldies station promote new rock?
