Sunny days in South Jersey coming soon?

The article seems to suggest a classic hits station at 105.5 might cause Easy 93 to flip ... I highly doubt it though, lots of companies own similarly formatted stations in the same market. Look at Greater Media Philly with its two rock stations, not to mention Philly's Clear Channel with Mix and Q102. And of course in SJ when Atlantic had MGM and JSE co-existing for a number of years.

I don't see why the switch wouldn't work. So far, it sounds like the Kiss FM simulcast will move to 93.1 and Soft AC will be replaced with classic hits on 105.5. There are already 3 stations that have oldies/classic hits in Cape May.

99.3 never promoted or branded the 105.5 frequency. I swear when Kiss FM took over, I thought they pulled the 105.5 simulcast from day one.

Equity doesn't even promote WAIV (WAYV's simulcast). But I guess there's no need. Their signal comes in like crazy down there.

Side note on the AIV thing, if you listen to the legal ID it's said very fast and very low. Its there, but not very noticeable.

I still don't think Easy is going to flip to a simulcast. For 1, their web site says "your soft and easy favorites return December 26." For another, the last time I listened they had commercials, which they never used to to my knowledge. But I could be wrong.

Make it stop. SLOW the records down to about 2% faster than normal rather than the 6 or more % is it now. And then get rid of the very thick South Jersey-accented woman announcing the songs after each record. It sounds like a cheap B-101 this way. Hire a pro to voice it if you insist on doing that annoying thing at the end of every song.

Why doesn't SOMEBODY do this right in South Jersey? FOUR stations now all a variation of classic hits and all four could be doing it SO much better. At least the other 3 aren't a juke box...and they have SOME personalities.

A note to all of the PD's at these 4 stations... Remember this:
Radio personalities are really all that distingquish radio from an iPod.

Give them something to SAY. Give them freedom to create. Give them direction. Give them a reason to be entertaining.

Junk the Jukeboxes!!!
They can get that from ANY internet audio source!!!

Take chances.
Make a few mistakes.
The audience will tell you what they really want.
Put some LOCAL people on the air that have something to SAY.
It's ALWAYS been what's between the music that counts.

BE BIG!

Here's all the classic hits stations in a nutshell:

Wibbage FM 94.3 = 60s & 70s hits, no 80s: signal reaches both counties
Kool 98.3 = 60s, 70s & 80s: signal reaches portions of cape may county
Sunny 105.5 = some 60s, more 70s & 80s hits: signal fades in atlantic county
Fun 106.7 = a little of everything, all 80s on weekends: signal only reaches cape may county & southern delaware

Note: 106.7's signal may soon be moving to 106.3

Still a fan of the oldies on WMID on the AM band. Yeah, I know they went Limbaugh from noon to three, but there is an audience for him too.

To Jay Sorenson:

You made a great point!!! Unfortunately, radio has been taken over by big groups that think everything is just music. They forget that radio is also a comfort food. People driving on the road or listening to radio at their office, identify the personalities as really their friends. Pandora can't do that.

You are right on with your statements,
"Radio personalities are really all that distingquish radio from an iPod.

For me, it's difficult paying personalities on our limited earnings but I wouldn't do it any other way! I also like the heavy personality driven oldies station, WIBG-FM.

josh sums it up perfectly. Today's homogeneity in radio has turned practically every station into nothing more than a seek & scan stop in an endless hit parade. By taking away the personality factor, they've removed the reason for favoring one station over another. After all, there's hardly any distinguishable characteristics when it comes to the music, really... at least for me personally. I have a hard time making the distinction between rock and country or how an AC station differs from Contemporary Hits. Maybe others can; but it's all the same to my untrained ear.

Furthermore, with internet radio and mp3 capabilities now in cars, tablets, and phones, who's gonna wanna listen to some straight playlist designed for "mass appeal" on broadcast radio when they can have a hand in their own programming and listen to their own personalized playlist instead?

OK I finally understand the call change to WSNQ. Just weird that the call change was a whole two years before the station launched. Wonder why Gary waited so long?
