Super Bowl commercials

It is only halftime, but so far my favorite is the Snickers commercial with Betty White and Abe Vigoda. Nice editing, and had great comedic timing.

I also enjoyed the Letterman promo featuring Oprah and Jay Leno. (mentioned in another thread here).

Runners-up: Thought the cars.com ad with the smart guy was quite effective. Careers.com with the casual Friday theme was amusing.

The KIA spot with the sock puppet!

Not to mention the Simpsons Coke Commercial.

Didn't the Simpsons previously shill for Pepsi? Greoenig must need the money ;)

Seemed to me like CBS and the Shield kept more promo time than they did the last couple of years. I think CBS had 30 second spots for at least four shows (Criminal Minds, CSI: Miami, Boss in Disguise, 2.5 Men). NFL had 3 :30 spots I think (NFL Network, NFL Draft x2)

Snickers was my favorite. The Doritos date commercial was my 2nd favorite.

Same here. I didn't know Vigoda was still alive. I guess he looks older than he is.

A lot of lame commercials this year. Have Super Bowl big game commercials jumped the shark?

Last week Radio Shrink (I can't spell the "P" word this early [I'm not awake yet] so I'll use the word Shrink) Dr. Joy Browne mentioned on her show a lot of people remember the commercials in great detail but can't remember the product or service being advertised, which kind of defeats the purpose of advertising.

Personal favorite: Hands down....the promo for "The David Letterman Show", featuring Dave, Oprah, and Jay Leno on that couch together. The only thing missing was Conan O'Brien... ;)

Runner up: The Dodge Charger......MAN'S LAST STAND ! ! !

This was the first time I'd ever seen an American feed of the Super Bowl and I enjoyed quite a few of the commercials - particularly the Simpsons Coke commercial (especially when Milhouse hit the bottle and apologized), the Snickers commercial, and all the Doritos commercials.

Letterman was the best one hands down though.

There had been some controversy last week about a supposedly "anti-abortion" ad to be aired during the Super Bowl, but it turned out to be nothing controversial from what I could tell (mind you, I was in a loud bar). The head of Focus on the Family, who came up with the ad about family values, was on CBC's "Q" last week insisting the ad wasn't what people were making it out to be, and I didn't see anything that some groups were claiming were in the ad.

I'd really like to comment but it's time to eat and after that I have a lot of taped shows to watch on TV. No more time today.

But I missed some commercials because The Who wasn't on that long and in one other case I was out of the room (HAD to be) when I thought there'd be a longer break.

Who won that football game they play during those breaks? ;)

Somewhat true as the Simpsons were used in a commercial for Kentucky Fried Chicken several years ago. This was back when the chain was owned by Pepsi and not by their current owners Yum Brands

I think I'm actually going to go to the States next year or find other options outside of cable or Canadian Sattelite service.
This whole sim sub nonsense here in Canada is Crazy!
I didn't get to see any American ads until they showed up on the internet because CTV blocked out (sim subbed) all the American channels that carry the game!

I don't hook up illegal equipment. :-X

WoW! I did not know KFC was sold! Here in Canada, as far as I know, KFC is still in the hands of Pepsi (at least the Taco bell/KFC/Pizza hut one roof locations, anyway.)

Also, another note about KFC: Where do they get their chicken from? Here in Canada they now use Maple Lodge farms chicken...not sure about the States.

These were mine too, but when I go look at a complete list in Advertising Age, complete with Bob Garfield's comments, I may change my mind. Actually, I can't remember the cars.com ad now. I only remember there was one.

YUM! Brands owns all of the Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut brands. Yum! restaurants were spun off from Pepsico some years ago.
