Superbowl Halftime show in 1 word

I don't think The Who were trying to duplicate their glory days. They didn't trash the stage and the instruments and have it surrounded by 500 young dancers doing The Swim and whatever else they danced to The Who with back in the day and shooting up on stage. Maybe they were pandering to the "CSI" angle a bit.
I'm sure they know their limitations these days. They shoulda did "Eminence Front" though, instead of the "CSI" derivatives. But that would probably be too unfamiliar to the 20somethings. Then again, the 20somethings are probably googling FlowTV and whatever ads they saw that they didn't know, so them kids will prolly be all right.
They couldn't trash things too much as there was a game to get back to. I'm still amazed at how quickly the field can be transformed into a concert venue and vice-versa

I thought the Who did a much better job than I expected them to do. I was expecting something more along some of the UNINSPIRED performances of the last few years, like the Stones did a few years ago.

Pete Townsend usually puts in 110% for a class act. A huge NYPD contingent showed up to honor him at The Kennedy Center Honors in 2008 because of the performance The Who put on after 9/11/01. As for the Stones, they're probably kind of winding down and don't really much care so long as they have a box office draw.

I love "The Who" my favorite band... Love all the Albums....

BUT> there is a time to call it quits. I know they still want to rock, and that's cool. But I watched the band I loved as a kid, who bashed guitars, jumped from the top of audio racks, ect, walk out on stage and look old.

I think Roger & Pete are legendary rockers...

but the Superbowl halftime show in 1 word...

old.

Dahling, we all get old; we just don't call it quits. The legendary rockers still rock and roll; they're just a little bit gentler about it than they were.

My kids were speculating on which ones were wearing adult diapers. :D
I was at a Super Bowl party last night and one of the guest made the same statement about the Who. The sad thing was the person making the statement wasn't much younger than Roger Daultry or Pete Townsend.

I find it very interesting, that "The Who Dat" team won a Super Bowl with the 1/2 time show performed by "The Who"
I am sure many people watched the 1/2 time show and were saying or thinking, "Who Dat?"

Kind of like calling Paul McCartney "that rock and roll guy", or so I heard.

I'm old enough to remember The Who's heyday, but their halftime performance was painfully awful--the very epitome of geezer rock. The lifeless and dull audio mix didn't help, either--I was mentally begging the CBS audio crew to crank up some processing and compression.

The lighting display was intriguing, but didn't make up for what was overall one of the most disappointing SB halftime shows I can remember. Almost (but not quite) made be yearn for the mind-numbing "Up With People" routines of 30 years ago...

Pete and Roger were awesome, alittle off key,the light show was great.
I have to give them credit for continue to tour at that age,Groups like the Stones,Eagles,Fleetwood Mac,Paul Mccartney,Bruce Springstein are still touring at 60 plus years old.
lets see these newcombers today like Lady Gaga are still touring in 30 plus years from now.I'm glad the NFL are picking these legendary bands for the halftime shows, hell with this new crap.

I enjoyed seeing The Who and the laser show, but I wished there was more variety to the songs - I have no doubt CBS wanted them to play the CSI songs.

That said, I do like Baba O'Reilley, regardless of what the song has been used for in recent years by a certain network.

Without that big production of the lasers and lights, people would be saying it Sucked. Roger for pushing 66 was halfway decent. A 7 out of 10. Pete who is almost 65, was all over the road and out of tune, and I would give him a 5 out of 10. The rest of the band I would give a 9 out of 10. Zak did an amazing job doing his best Keith Moon impression. Not bad for Ringo Jr. However, who ever was doing the live mix should be looking for another line of work. You didn't cut it.

...and CBS would say, "What dat?"

Really... I enjoyed the moment of confusion on my kids' faces when CBS put the halftime concert and the KISS commercials so close together. 'Twas funny. :D

"That deaf, dumb & blind Pete, sure played a mean air guitar".....

G

One word? "Click".

Jay-Z in 2011.

CBS is so paranoid that allow artists of the past to perform the half-time show since the whole "Nipplegate" incident. Meanwhile, most of the viewers of the half time show doesn't care to watch.
