Supertalk Needs an Identity

For all the Supertalk bashing that's been going on around here, let me just add something:

Supertalk needs an identity.

Mornings, it's sports.
Midday it's Glenn Beck - political.
Afternoons - Ramsey - get out of debt.
PM Drive- Furman - sports.

There is no constant "theme" between any of this.

On Sundays, they should pick up W One's or Jones' NFL games. It would give those who have given up on Marvin and Mikey Boy something else to hear.

With its poor showing so far, something should be done to give it an "identity".

major....don't you think Sundays should be DIFFERENT from the other talk/sports/news stations? They run Dave Ramsey and Glenn Beck since they're supposedly the most popular guys on the station. Countering football on three signals with something that appeals to females sounds like a better idea than a Westwood One football game. They should get a live midday political show. That would help the localism aspect, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

In 6 months they will go sports talk. Read Kiesewetter's blog as to why they mistakenly ran Dan Patricks show during Glenn Beck's program for 15 minutes this morning.

Dan Patrick On SupertalkFM96.5

Could Dan Patrick's new syndicated show be picked up by SupertalkFM96.5, aka WFTK-FM?

A shrewd test of public opinion. Thumbs up to the pros at Cumulus.

1530 WCKY has the Westwood One NFL Contract. plus even if 96.5 wanted to Air NFL games on Sunday other than getting either the Browns, colts or steelers. which Mikey boy wouldnt allow to be aired in his town. they can only air games opposite of the bengals game so they could have only aired a 4pm game yesterday on 96.5 if they wanted to due to the Hometown Team has exclusive rights in the markets. Thats why if a bengals game is blacked out on WKRC and WKRC has the CBS DOubleheader weekend. WKRC would only be allowed to air one game. yesterday in cleveland due to the browns being carried by Fox due to the Seahawks being the road team and all NFC road games against AFC Teams are on Fox. CBS in Cleveland got shut out of a doubleheader and couldnt see the colts/Patriots game due to the browns having exclusive rights to the market at 4pm yesterday

They are trying desperately to emulate the format that they had here in Nashville when WWTN overtook WLAC as the #1 talker.

Local mornings
Political (G. Gordon Liddy if you can believe it)
Dave Ramsey
Local Sports

I think they were hoping that Furman could duplicate the success that George Plaster gave them in Nashville but he has yet to find a big audience.

That is what Cummulus has done with WWFT. Mancow (AM) Laura Ingrahm , Ramsey, Hannity, Savage, Doyle
The only problem..no ratings!! They will be going X-mas music next week. After that who knows.

I still believe that pulling the plug on WWFT was a big mistake by Cumulus. WIBC was heading over to the FM at 93.1 and WWFT was sitting at 93.9...what luck! Seriously being that close on the dial to the number one station in the market is not bad. There was some traction starting to happen in Indy but for some reason they pulled the plug.

I was really pulling for them. WLW is at it's weakest since the Bill Wills' days. They could have hurt the Big One, and BAD

But it's hard to believe how crappy this station is-- Listen to them on Friday night. A full signal FM in a top 30 market is doing a "brokered-time" High School Football show with kids calling in on their cell phones to give updates. OMG.

The Cincy Cyclones put 2000 people in the arena for a game--- but you can follow them (well, only the road games) on Stupor-Talk. Miami Hockey? If there was ever a case to have a license revoked this is it.

They oops and announce the Angry Guys on the website before on the air, then they do an "on-air" test of the new midday host assuming that no one will notice (and no one would have noticed if an insider had not tipped off Kieswetter)

Is Cume-Less this bad or is it idiot local management?

Next they will try all sports to compete for that whopping 2 share that Homer once had-- they will fail and the "12-in-a-row-hit-kicker" country will be back on the Beaver 96 1/2 in 11 months 24 days and 14 minutes.

Good thing the GM is "smokin hot"! She will probably survive while talented folks like TJ and Tom/Jeff and Andy are left to swing in the breeze.

It smells like a turd, looks like a turd----it IS a turd---

Sad--- It would have been fun to watch WLW have to react.

Oh well, back to the net and my roku radio.

see ya sukka

At least the Beaver 96 1/2 had some good jingles back in the day, and probably had higher ratings than what is a poor excuse for a talk station which is now Supertalk.

Cumulus is brainless when it comes to news-talk and Supertalk is a joke -- but anything that gets teens involved with radio, never mind talk radio, is a good thing for the industry. Not to mention some of their parents (aged 35-49 or so) are tuned in as well.

Think that through---

High School kids and any parents who care are AT the game---- a post-game report like WLW Did (or do they still?)? 100% for sure! During the game? ummmmmm no.

And the folks at "The File" did not start this thread.

Cumulus Houston Talk...gone.
Cumulus Indianpolis Talk...gone
Cumulus Cincinnati Talk...

Heard in the halls at the 8 9 5, "How long can this go? No sales. High cost."

"The File" thinks country.

The ONLY way for 96.5 to have been any kind of competition to WLW would have been to spend lots of money on the right local talent. Forget syndicated programming and forget sports. At best, a sportstalk station in this town gets you a 2.5 period. Glenn Beck didn't work here on KRC and adding a speaker won't help. The decent syndicated programming is counted on one hand and it's locked up. It would have cost a ton and taken three years at least. They'd have had to establish themselves before Burbank goes away. That window is closed. Cumulus has shown themselves to be cheaper than CC and not ready to compete in a market this size.

When Mike McConnell was the PD at 96, his new boss asked him what he'd do with it if it was his. He said, "If you had exclusive information as to the end of the world and three weeks to promote it on that station, you'd still only get a five share. I'll tell you what I told the last owner - I'd burn it and take the insurance."

Arbitorn...Glenn Beck didn't work on KRC? HMMMM! Interesting. His book before the change to Tony Snow (Fall 05) had him at a 1.8 25-54. I guess you'd say now that Laura Ingraham isn't working because she has a 1.9 in the Summer 07. Before that he was averaging 3.4.

Laura's 25-54 average share from Summer '06 to Summer '07 is 2.2

Glenn's 25-54 average share on WKRC from Fall '04 to Fall '05 was 3.0

As for the good shows being taken, whether you love him or hate him, Dave Ramsey is doing a 1.9 25-54 against Limbaugh's 3.0 share. Pretty close, I'd say.

That's half the argument. KRC couldn't sell Beck. They can sell Laura. They can sell Rush. Let's see if Cumulus can sell what they have. If they can, the audience numbers won't matter for them either.

One of the resaons Rush only has a 3-share is that this market prefers local talent to syndication. The argument has been made here that Syndicating Burbank or McConnell would hurt them. Same logic. We want local.

WOW and what is with those terrible billboards--- It looks like they were done on a cheap Walgreens digital camera and a 3rd grader on photoshop... Can't they afford an an agency so they don't look like WPFB???

349 days till Country!! Yeeee Haw!

I hope you're not talking about the new Glenn Beck billboards. The only new ones I have seen are from Headline News, not Supertalk.
