Support WRKO AM 680!!

OK all of us radio peeps. We've all been rather vocal about many of the poor "on-air" decisions and "talent" issues in the past over at WRKO AM 680. Today, they provided absolutely outstanding coverage of these current events about Osama which will clearly effect our immediate future. Seems it may be time for us all to "man" up a little and be supportive of this very wise and important decision. And if for nothing else, it gets us back on the path that we were all begging the Suits for: Better programming and better talent...yes, true radio talent! So text them, call them, Facebook them, send tweets. Thank them for attemtping to get back to the fundamentals of great radio...for the listeners!! Great call WRKO... One for the good guys....Harvey, keep going!!!!

So, I realize there still may be a question involved here in regard to WRKO's wise decision today. What happens when/if WRKO goes back to that "regularly schedule programming" that many of us call infomercials which we really don't find helpful? Well, for the ones of us true radio peeps who are really serious and ready to match our words and actions together these days, here's a huge suggestion for your consideration: Give them fair warning, no more bad radio or we will cut you off....for real this time peeps! Give us what you gave us today WRKO...and then better!!

So, here's the date; On the 16th of May when you turn on your radios at 12:06P to continue your newly gained support of WRKO AM 680, if you hear that the "Lunch Money" show is still being broadcast over these great Boston airwaves, there would be your awesome chance to CHANGE the channel, CHANGE your preset and this time keep looking FORWARD!!! No more looking back, no more chances of less than optimal radio! This time finally pull the plug on WRKO, PERIOD! Some other local stations here in Boston are TRULY making an effort to give us great programming WITH quality "radio" talent. Give them a try and a fair chance...you don't like them, change your presets again!!

Today's events in the Middle East proved that we need to get back to informed radio, with informed talent. "Lunch Money" is less than optimal, with mediocre talent, we all know it, and after all, "we the people" have no "Lunch Money" left to spend!! WRKO AM 680 did a premier job today at keeping us informed and involved in the dialogue. We need more of that, and we should have it today and everyday!!! Right???!!!

So c'mon you TRUE radio peeps. Spread the word. Use what the Suits tell us to use to promote that bad programming; Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, email, text, whatever the resource to have your VOICE finally heard on this issue...Yea, maybe once and for all!

Tell all your friends that on May 16, 2011 we here in Boston have an opportunity to make a sound difference when it comes to the real information we receive over OUR airwaves!! Get 'er done... :D :D

Which one are you more interested? Making a difference finally in this radio business or using your time playing with dates....We're wasting time. Can you help us get back to great programming here in Boston or not? Sorry man, wasn't looking for dialogue...it's time for us serious radio lovers to get back to work... :)

Then do the same thing there...give 'em a deadline, if they don't deliver, say Goodnight! Pass the word for any other places having this problem. This may be the moment... 8)

What can they do to make themselves better?? Please tell us?

I think they should put Michelle Mcphee on Noon-3pm, followed by Howie Carr 3pm-7pm, Jen Brien 7pm-9pm, and Rusty Humphries 9pm-Midnight, that way everything will be live weekdays.
That's just my thought for starters.
On Weekends they should also have more live programming. Example Saturdays Noon-3pm Jen Brien, 3pm-7pm Avi Nelson, 7pm-9pm "Real Estate Today" 9pm-10pm "Bloomberg Businessweek" and 10pm-1am maybe put something entertaining such as "Comedy Radio 247" from Citadel Media
Sundays put it simular
such as 4pm-7pm "Money Matters with Bob Brinker" It's live in this area at this time, and 7pm-9pm "Pundit Review" and maybe put on Comedy Radio 24/7 10pm-1am. (Or maybe 10pm-1am put "Barry Armstrong Weekend Money" Put it on LIVE Saturday and Sunday put it on 9pm-Midnight on LIVE)
Early Sunday morning 1am-5am put "Red Eye Radio" that's live at that time every overnight in this area.
This way, most of their programming will be live, either local or national. I have more ideas, but for now, this will be good.

Sorry if you all don't like it, but hey, these are ideas, nothing to hurt no one.

Tell us your ideas as well

No disrespect meant LAUROJRM, I've already offered my words to WRKO. My idea now is for them to listen to the voice of the people they service. This opportunity is about truly serving the great listeners and awesome broadcasting talent here in Boston, who by the way, keep getting cheated over and over and over again.

This maybe a great opportunity for WRKO to be different again. Idea, really open up there doors to aspiring radio professionals, bet they have answers to that question you ask, "WHAT CAN WE DO TO DO BETTER?" Some great ideas can come from the hundreds and hundreds of talented radio professionals here in Boston. Maybe throw a TRUE "CAREER DAY", no more of this "show me the money, I'll show u the red light" stuff. Let's get back to thinking outside that box and stop chasing that dollar!

Huge opportunity for many people to do the right thing LAUROJRM...If you feel that line-up and the programming is premier, then cool. Though for the many who continue to see that we can do better, hopefully they'll turn up the heat. I'll leave the programming to the "programming department", were it should be.

And, today we all heard how they can actually do better... :)

Savage supposedly does well for them. Be aware on occasion WRKO is used for spillover sports;
I think this will happen tomorrow when they get the Sox while EEI has Celtics playoffs.

As far as I can tell, Entercom plans to keep them talk--no ethnic, oldies, religious, or ESPN or
Sporting News Radio, just what they're doing now. They prob. intend to renew Howie when his
contract expires and we'll see if he just stays there or entertains an offer from elsewhere (he
hints about THAT enough).
Being local is great; of course they try to keep within budget, but this sounds like what has happened in the past when they replace a normal syndicated show with something local when
a major event occurs--temporarily. I remember one time they pre-empted whatever was running at 7 pm for Moe Lauzier (remember him?) when we had a big blizzard. He was on all week, but just for a week....This past yr, they tried Joe Battenfeld with a Fri-only politics show in adv. of the '10
elections, but when the votes were cast, that was it.

Their sister station does pretty well with a mostly local lineup. Whether they would find it in their
budget to add good local talkers, we'll see. I do like Avi. Not sure if he'd so something more regular that a weekend show and the occasional fill in.

Lunch Money brings money into the station (I think)...just be glad it isn't the show with Bill Kelly
they run on Sat mornings--the voice is horrible. They prob make money off him too (not much)...

I'm really liking the TRUE "CAREER DAY" Event! Wonder if they (RKO) viewed those Arbitron numbers yet?? Boy, what a great story it would make if they put some true effort into it... "From the Valley, Back to the Top - Boston's WRKO Lives Again!". Give em support radio peeps...if they wanna survive, they'll need your help! :).

WRKO-AM 1.9 262,500 1.8 256,100 1.8 286,100 Talk Entercom

I hope they talk about that Osama video possibly due out today at Noon on WRKO AM 680!! Boy, what huge story that may change everything, the videos and pictures of Osama's death...Wow.... hope!!! :)

The fact that "thetheo"'s brain hurts AND that he has nothing to add is an important fact to make note of:

This was my purpose of this thread: I'm hopeful that WRKO and others in this business of broadcasting will take this posting seriously enough to recognize that the problem we face in this business can be easily solved. The idea that (the suits) have seemingly divorced themselves from the fundamentals of "Radio", is exactly why we continue to find it hard to make true forward progress. ANY business that removes the very key components of their core business is bound to see there doors one day close. It makes sense. To disregard the ALL THE GREAT radio talent right under your noses here in Boston, all to seemingly chase a piece of paper is just wrong. Acquiring Money was not and is not the purpose of Radio.

Some of us feel it's time to hand the reigns back to the true radio lovers, those who do the business of communication and broadcasting because it's who we are not because of who we think we CAN become. I think you'll see that it is their, the radio lovers, very creativity missing in this big puzzle, it's the key ingredient. I imagine our listening audience we serve everyday will agree.

If for nothing else, I hope this thread wakes some suits up. I imagine if things don't improve, many of those "administrative people we call suits" will be added numbers to this already outta control unemployment situation. No disrespect meant, although it's gotta be finally said out loud and bluntly!! Hey, maybe I'm wrong.... Consider it my Jerry McGuire moment....

I hope this works peeps...Go Get 'Em You Radio Lovers, this could be that moment!!!!
