Surprised nobody's mentioned this...June Ratings

Atlanta has a huge transplant percentage

This is why I think Hot AC does so well here - most of the transplants are middle-high income, who relocated here because branches of their business offered that opportunity - and there does seem to be a link between income and desire for pop/rock on CHR, either because Ed Sheeran and the Lumineers are more "intellectual" than the typical pop/dance artists, and/or because higher income teens tend to study music and play instruments (i. e. especially guitar) more so than working class teens

Orlando follows the same pattern - their Hot AC was at the top of the market until this book, and their CHR leans HAC

If a rhythmic-lean isn't working, IMO Power needs to change their strategy and go after Q100 as being the more current and exciting CHR - but that means being first with everything, consistently, so that the 18-34 demo that wants to hear new music sooner with always hear it first on Power - if Power is first on some tracks but late on others (especially rhythmic-leaning tracks), there really isn't a reason for people to listen to Power over Q100

But, funny things is...Rick Vaughn is also the PD at WKSC/Chicago. And that station beating long-time CHR, WBBM!

AllAccess has Tommy Austin listed as the current PD of WKSC

Rick Vaughn was PD there for a while, but back then WKSC was losing to WBBM, and losing badly - I don't think WKSC's ratings started to improve until after Rick Vaughn left (not completely sure about that...)

Looks like WSB AM has lost some luster. Several people here suggested it was a post-election dip for them. I think AN 106.7, the retiring of Boortz, cutting back Clark Howard and the continuation of Herman Cain has taken some of the wind out of their sails.

106.7 is meaningless. I agree with your other thoughts, but 106.7 is simply a non-factor, and I am amused at the constant bleatings here from fanboys. A 1.8 station isn't affecting anyone, especially when it is a stagnant 1.8...

I am not a fan or employee of Cumulus, but most successful all news stations have a track record of decades. This is a long term "project". IMHO it will 5 to seven years to judge the success or failure of 106.7. I wasn't following or interested in spoken word formats when WINS or WCBS started with all news so I don't have any time frame of how long it took. I personally felt that CBS would do with All News based on their ownership of WINS, WBBM, and WCBS, but Cumulus with 106.7 is doing better than Radio One is with KROI in Housten,

or CBS'S WNEW in DC:

The successful news stations "decades" of development started when the idea of radio news was a lot more viable than it is now. And five to seven years in the future, it will be an even less attractive option. Probably explains why there haven't been any successful start ups lately. I don't expect Cumulus to be that patient.

From a content standpoint, AN 106.7 sounds more like it belongs in Macon than Atlanta. The presentation, except for Greg and Melissa, is boring, the stories largely irelevant. Why sit through a half hour of crap to hear the one or two things that might be of interest, when there is so much more detail available online with less time wasted? From my experience, more stories break on social media than on AN 106.7, and their web presence is awful. The primary, and perhaps only, value the station has is the traffic info when I'm in my car (which is frequent). Frankly, I think the station would have higher numbers if it flipped to All Traffic and Weather with news headlines on the sixes.

WNEW-FM has a completely different problem. It's trying to compete with one of the best All-New stations in the country, but its signal is not competitive in DC or Virginia. It either has to move to one of CBS Radio's other DC signals or simulcast with one of them. And that's a problem because CBS's other stations in that market are making money.

I fail to see what this has to do with TODAY. 106.7 is not successful. It will not have decades. I am amused by the fanboys who act as though 106.7 is the 800 pound gorilla, when it is, at this point in time an anemic rhesus monkey.

It's got more than 3 times the ratings of 92.9 The Game, which no one seems to want to admit is a complete failure - I just can't believe how much respect CBS gets on these message boards and how much disrespect Cumulus gets...

V-103 is going to have to mix things up soon. Egypt in the mid-days is just not doing it. Now Kiss has added Sasha the Diva to mid-days which means even more competition.

http://www.accessatlanta.com/weblog...-diva-gets-permanent-slot-mid-days-kiss-1041/

All Cox did is restore Sasha back to the spot they removed her from about 5 years. Their reasons for ending her contract was she was asking to for too much in pay. V-103's parent,

CBS, doesn't have much to worry about with WALR because Cox is too cheap to fully staff their station. Ultimately, CBS is more concerned about the key money demos in the case of versus WALR and Majic. They are still beating them both in the 25-54 and overall 18-49 groups.

Interesting Sasha was moved back to middays, but what really happened to Cynthia Young? I said a couple of months ago that V-103 was playing way too much Hip-Hop between 10am-2pm. Will V103 ever staff the Quiet Storm? I haven't heard much about the show since Joyce was let go. I really think Ryan Cameron should've stayed in afternoon drive. Something about Big Tigger (IMO) doesn't fit well.

I also do not care for Big Tigger in afternoons. He somehow sounds like he doesn't quite fit on V-103. Kenny Burns, who left, wanted that slot, and I think he would have been better for it than Big.
How are his numbers in afternoon drive?
