Surprising format change on Star 99.9

Radio around here is awful, Star, 'PLR, KC 101, Kiss. All terrible, IMHO.

They should shut down their transmitters and move the NTS stations further northeast. At least we would have a decent CHR.

I am with you. There is nothing worth listening to. Go into a Dunkin' Donuts anywhere in New Haven County. If they have one of the stations you listed on, ask a anyone in the place if they can tell you
who does mornings? Or better yet ask anyone if they know anything at all about the station. They will probably look at you with a blank expression.
Local radio is for local talent. Not some hippy dippy from Oshkosh, Wisconsin who knows bo didley about
CT culture.
Everything is automated or voice tracked anyway. Radio station mgrs could care less about the listener, as long as they can jam their 15 commercial units an hour down their ear canals.

Star is always right behind WEBE. Just one market is Danbury where Star is over WEBE. As for Star 99.9 should they drop the AC format they have. They could go CHR and compete with KC 101.3

Interesting idea. Cox does a pretty decent job of running WBLI on Long Island. Maybe they could transfer some of their success across the sound.

They should go country! YZ wouldn't show up in Bpt anymore.

That would be about as successful as setting up a country station in NYC :)

The format options are limited in that area?

Noticed that they added the 80's music--I think before, they were 90's and 00's only. Got into the car and heard Huey Lewis and the news "if this is it" and knew something was different. Before, they played the same ol 200 songs...of course in adding the 80's, they'll stick with 100 well know, overplayed titles. Still boring...

Agreed, after listening some more over weekend (or at least trying to listen) I would not call this a format change at all. Same boring stuff.

I caught Star playing Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen" the other day. Although much of the target audience grew up listening to Fletwood Mac and Mac-related solo acts, I never expected this song to break out beyond classic rock playlists. DRC-FM, maybe, but not Star 99.9. I can't imagine hearing it on 100.5, ever.

Wow I have to tune them in to listen before they go Xmas , If they do it.

As a Avid Stevie Nicks fan.I will check it out.

99.9 is nothing but an absolute train wreck the moring show sucks the audio is bad the djs and music are both equally boring. Their on air talent sounds like they are reading a pre written script every other word is just promoting another one of their sponsors. Even if they did tweak the format to include 80's 90's and todays they still fall back on the same songs and do nothing but jam commercials into your ear. What the station needs is a total over haul they should take some notes from 96.5 TIC if they want to go 80's 90's and today. Also their on air talent needs a good dose of caffine to wake up and be more lively sounding like they are actually awake and not rolling out of their death bed.

Such is the case with many radio stations - making the sell any way they can (even 5-second commercials - ever hear those?) as well as "playing the hits". I would assume TIC is a bit "bolder" than 99.9?

TIC is a Hot AC format, while I'c call 99.9 AC. TIC plays has a much "bolder" playlist with quite a few currents.
