Sylva

And a new Wal-Mart Supercenter is slated for Franklin, just down the road from Sylva,
Not to mention Waynesville got one several years ago and closed the smaller store in Lake Junaluska. Right next to my motel, so while the manager could have gone across the street to get TVs to replace the ones damaged in the previous night's storm two years ago, I had to wait for him to get back to officially check in. Fortunately, the maid let me into my room. The people I was with had their own motel.

and home to two more Art Sutton stations. Franklin just "lost" a local AM. It's still on the air, but no longer local.
Same in Waynesville. They have a transmitter, and there are high school sports events, but otherwise it just repeats Beck, Rush and Hannity and the Asheville morning show. No good music in the mountains except a country station with a lousy signal that pretty much goes off the air at night. Plus classical when it's available.

As the economy is tanking and IPODS are taking over, combine with Radioco homoginizing radio and making it horrid, veterans loosing jobs to interns- what does one expect? Radio=epic fail. The WRGC deal is sad, I liked how they had a good hometown feel and they sounded great! They will be missed!! Good folks over there also. :(

I just wonder about the timing. HS sports and Christmas should help billings. IMHO there is (was) issues with the land lease. Has the STA for 540 been issued?

I was lucky to work for Mr Childers (IIRC the RGC of WRGC) in the early 1980's.

Not to be ugly at all, but just to correct a couple of small mistakes here:

The former owner was Jimmy Childress (not childers).

The station was WMSJ until the late '70s when Jimmy's son Ronnie was killed while working inside the live transmitter there. Shortly after Jimmy changed the call letters to WRGC to honor and remember his late son.
