Talk is, Free-FM's over & out at WFNY

Now does anyone want to tell me I was incorrect when I said that the station was treading water while waiting to switch to music and that the ploy of getting folks fired was simply to lessen the financial burden in the end and had nothing to do with racism, bias, or anything else the papers or Al Sharpton said?

I wouldn't say "nothing." Rev Al et al did put some of the last nails in the coffin but there were other factors and the station has been "treading water" as you say.

Why replace it with rock ratings when rock was also getting mediocre ratings. Why not replace it with something bold and exciting?

What would be 'exciting' to you. Radio for the most part is dead as we knew it so what would be something that would draw an audience in today's market where there are many ways to hear music and be entertained and the music system that fed radio is now gone.

I like the ‘shock jock’ format. Looks like I'm part of a 2 share (or less) audience in every market. There is nothing for me in Atlanta, so I choose sat, podcasts and streaming most of the time. Looking down the road, I’ll probably abandon broadcast and satellite radio altogether and switch to WiFi as soon as it’s practical in the car.

Check out this one.

Bring the WXRK calls back to NYC and Cleveland should bring back the original WRQC calls. If not, it's not gonna happen. How about will move "Jack" from its 101.1 frequency to 92.3 and then WCBS-FM will go Classic Hits at 101.1 playing the 60's, 70's and 80's music like the way KFRC did in San Francisco since they flipped from hot talk last week and WBPM in the Hudson Valley is also doing the same thing since it flipped from oldies back in the beginning of February. That would be a great idea for a classic hits station which is going to be part of New York radio. ;D

Following O and A, a 10 minute extended promo/teaser started airing, and is currently, prompting the flip. I suspect back to the old KROCK format O and A mornings.

I could see how ‘hot talk’ might not play well here in Atlanta, but NY? Was the flip because the top guy didn’t like the format, or were the numbers that low?

At the end of today's show they said they had to go to a meeting. Not a good sign...

To hear them talk you'd think they go to a meeting at the end of every show. I wouldn't read to much into it. Besides, there is a more pressing issue they might be meeting about.

Could it be that they'll move their K-Rock 2 Active Rock HD Format up to the main frequency? The station has jocks, it is already programmed, and could be implemented by flipping a switch. My guess is that they're wasn't a lot of time to flip the format, so this would be the easiest solution!

The numbers were that low

Oh well...Best of luck to the new station.

It was the same story in Atlanta. A station with a 200 song playlist (Elton John, Eagles, etc..) racked up while our 'hot talk' station remained flat.

Shock jocks are now officially protected as an endangered species.

COUNTRY.....

Please flip to 92.3 The Wolf, New York's Best Country

Have you listened to the stunting at all????

Guns & Roses, Metallica, Incubus, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Beastie Boys, Buckcherry, and the clip list goes on.

Krock is probably back.
