Ohio- Rush has often said on his show the reason he chose that as a theme was not just the driving bass beat that would get your attention, but because it was written by a great liberal and this would get people talking- "Why THIS song?"

Rush says a lot of things on his show. Are they all 100% true?

My thought is that "I chose that to tick off a liberal and get people talking" is a nice, entertaining explanation for the dittoheads. What I said was probably closer to the reality of what happened back in the mid-80's in Sacramento. But, who knows, maybe there was thought to it in that production room.

And yes, I mentioned the whole dust up over the use of the song. I seem to remember that Ms. Hynde was wholly unaware that Rush was using the song, until someone pointed it out to her, she got ticked and tried to press music rights issues. In the end, Rush/Premiere ended up paying some money to PETA, I think it was.

Anyone know anything about Glenn Becks intro. Sounds good and appears custom made for him.

They are. Usually they are covers of songs. First one in late 2001 was based from Blink-182's "All The Small Things," IIRC. A Good Charlotte song was also covered in 2006, I can't remember the title. The only time an actual song was used as a theme occurred back in 2005, using both Rage Against The Machine's "Killing in the Name of" and Beck's "E-Pro."

I do not know what they based the current theme off of, only with the various historical soundbites and morse code.

Rush/Premiere has a cease-and-desist order put on them back in early 1999, and that lasted for four weeks or so. That whole time, it was whatever song was in the general bumper rotation, which always has been heavily 80s based. When Hannity filled in for Rush during this time, "She Drives Me Crazy" was played at the top... which Sean then noted was Clark Howard's theme (Clark's show, IIRC, wasn't syndicated yet).

Confirming what Pratte4Life has said, Ms. Hynde joked in an interview conducted after the settlement was made that her parents were Rush dittoheads, and said - tongue-in-cheek - that "Rush isn't that dangerous."

I remember the brief "cease/desist order" period. Rush actually had some fun with it, and Ms. Hynde and her politics became a focal point of the show for a while. Rush can get material out of anything

In the end, Rush probably got a little boost out of it, Chrissie got money for a cause Rush hates, and the song was put back on the show.

I'm stlll pretty sure it was just chosen for its musical qualities, though there could very well have been a "bonus" in Rush's mind that it was liberal Chrissie Hynde's song.
