Howard's been doing it for years.
______________

Infinity -- oops,

I've been wondering when somebody would point this out!

And I think the fact that it's going to be a CBS Talk Radio network puts an entirely new spin on things, espeically in San Diego, where KFMB used to be the CBS affiliate on AM. What happens now?

YES, THANK YOU !!!!
That's what I've been saying all along.

There's so many other ways to get music, and all are cheaper. Why pay to listen to CHR when I can listen to 933 for free? I've sampled the different Satellite offerings at Circuit City. It's all the same stuff...

The masses are not going to pay for that.

Before someone tries to say "that's what the naysayers said about cable television", the differences are:

1. No special equipment required. Analog cable works on every television set manufactured in the past 15-20 years. When a terminal is required, the cable system provides it; the customer does not have to purchase one.

2. Radio is a much more portable medium than television.

3. Local stations included (most people include among their reasons for subscribing to cable improved reception of local stations).
______________

Now the question is...

I wonder - just throwin' these out there, y'all, to get your take on this -

Since Infinity's plan has been leaked (or, what looks to be their plan) of converting a bunch of FMs to talk, will they now move the launch date up?

Since Clear Channel owns Premiere, will Clear Channel try to beat Infinity to the punch and convert an FM in some of these Infinity markets to talk before Infinity does?

I wonder, does Infinity know from research that there's definitely an audience out there for FM talk in the markets where they're planning on doing this, or are they just doing this just because Stern left for Sirius?

If Stern had just straight retired from radio altogether and gone off the air, would Infinity be doing this at all?

Seems odd that they'd go around and blow up all these stations that they'd invested so many millions of dollars in building, branding and maintaining, just to start all over again.

They have hardly spent a dime on the Planet and I suspect some other stations have been carried by Stern for so long that they have no brand by themselves. They have to do something: I mean, Adam Carrolla, who cares? He'll fade away before too long. Can someone explain him?

Misconception? You own link proves HIS point

Says KM: > Satellite radio is not, as you hope fervently, "taking off".

So I go ahead and click on KM's link, and find "... XM and Sirius continue to attract new customers at an impressive rate ..." said Michael Buckley, associate analyst at Kagan Research, quoted at
www.radioink.com/HeadlineEntry.asp?hid=130904&pt=todaysnews

The fact that XM and Sirius are plowing money into programming does not counter the argument that they are talking off.

Satellite radio is the fastest-growing consumer technology EVER - faster than CD players, MP3s, color TVs, and indoor plumbing, for that matter.

Sure, their audience is not YET as big as a New York FM. But their growth is better than any new format's in the country, and the audience in San Diego among San Diegans is growing faster than Jack, Jill, MegaJose or any other flavor of the month.
