Talkers 2013 Heavy Hundred

Alex Jones should be way higher than #66...

He's actually up from, I believe, 85th last year. I'm sure the pub from appearances on Piers Morgan and other shows will buoy him to the top half of the list next year.

They do favor the hosts who place ads on their website. Kim Komando, Andrea Tantaros, and Dave Ramsey all have ads on the site.

I can't seem to understand why they favor some hosts over others. For example, the ENTIRE KFI lineup is listed (Handel, Carroll, John & Ken, Conway Jr.). They also leave out names that should probably be included on their lineup.

Some possible names to include are Karie and Chuck, Garland Robinette, John Gambling, Mark and Dave, Dori Monson, Jonathon Brandmeier, Paul W. Smith, Jon Grayson, Eddie and Tracy, Tom Becka, Terry Meiners, Frank O. Pinion, Mark Belling, Dave Lee, etc.

They always get the hosts in or around the east coast, especially with the sports heavy hundred. They need to expand their search, not look at their "favorites".

Despite what you may think of the hosts that comprise the KFI weekday lineup, there is no denying the fact that KFI absolutely dominates the airwaves in Los Angeles. It's been solidly trading places in the top 3 with KIIS and KOST for many books. All of that on a band that many have deemed "dead as a doornail". You'd have to look far toward the bottom of the ratings list to even find KFI's direct competition outside of Newsradio KNX 1070. So, I'd say there is some merit to the KFI cast of characters all making the Talkers 100.

In all fairness, Kim and Dave belong on the list, no matter what the criteria are.

I've had more than one radio executive tell me that Talkers will only list you as a Heavy Hundred Host if your company is a big advertiser with them. Sad, but in keeping with the industry these days. Lots of great hosts never made it, apparently for that reason.

Since most radio execs see through this scam, and Talkers is targeted at radio execs, what's the point in advertising? If it's to buy votes it's meaningless.

the advertising is like Coke signs, trays, cups, etc. Branding, so to speak. Ramsey takes out a lot of billboards too, or his stations do. (they like Mark Levin ads cut off the top of his head however)

Those listings get shows cleared. I worked for a station that cleared a certain host. The show was terrible. Listeners complained on our local talk show. The staff objected. And the PD responded with his then ranking on the Talkers list. Besides, the show was free; the station had dropped Rush when he started charging.

This PD otherwise seemed knowledgeable about the business but he believed every word in Talkers.

The list is there to sell ad space. Everyone knows the dirty little secret. About 75 of the spots are taken by national hosts who belong there, the remainder are for sale.
