TALKERS 250 - 2008

And Lionel isn't on live anywhere of significance outside of NYC. Those guys must be paying him a boatload for him to leave a heritage (dinosaur) like WOR, as well as the weekend show he did which cleared a bunch of stations he'd never clear M-F.

Lionel is live in Washington, D.C. (WWRC). DC is not significant?

And Lionel has said that he's making less than he did at WOR, but he was willing to take less to work better hours and have a more normal life.

True on the live in Washington--because Stephanie Miller is now on a stronger signal.

The signal may be stronger, but she's delayed until 7 pm and the station only carries two of her three hours. Meanwhile, Lionel is not only live on WWRC, but he's also carried from 7 pm to 10 pm (against Stephanie) and again from 3 am to 6 am -- a total of nine hours on RC.

Bill Press (#96) is described as a "Texas conservative heard in syndication." He's heard in syndication all right (Jones), but the last time I looked he was a D.C. liberal who was once the chairman of the California Democratic party.

Hmm, that is odd! I wonder if they mixed up descriptions? Maybe some ultra-conservative high up on the list has ended up Press' description? :D

Another example of why whatever Talkers says should be taken with a huge grain of salt. Still another example: ranking Lionel nine places above Randi Rhodes.

Well Randi didnt go on a trip to Israel with Michael Harrison now did she?

According to her web site, she's carried from 7 pm to 9 pm. http://www.stephaniemiller.com/stations.php?PageId=89&PageSubId=

Well the Steph Miller show station locater is not always up to date. WAIS 770AM is a Nelsonville Ohio station that she is on. On said website it is listed as a West VA station. If a person is in Whitehall Ohio they can pick up WAIS 770AM. (I was using an Eton 300 Mini World Band Radio) Here is the 3WT station link:

http://www.3wtradio.com/

It shows her at 10AM to Noon. Plus I can't stand that Randi keep saying she it the Number One lib talker. Ed Schultz have more stations. I rather listen to Bill-O on very low rated WYTS than her.

Washington is significant, but WWRC ain't. I'll bet there are more people living in my building than Lionel's AQH on WWRC.

You knew it was over when CC started airing weekday infomercials (not even daily shows, mind you) on the station. CC may have other flaws, but they typically don't whore out nearly as much time as other companies, and not during the week. If we can only find one example of how Lionel is prospering, that basically proves my point.

I do believe Steph is on live 10-noon on 3WT, and Rhodes, who was on the trimulcast from 4-7p, is now only on the crappy AM (820, I believe), while Beck moved over on 1500/107.7. The fact that every show on CC's two talk stations is moving to anywhere they can, even a crazy operation like 3WT, tells you that CC's DC talkers are DOA.

I worked at that station in the 60s (when it was WWDC-AM) and its signal was actually pretty good (although from all accounts it's not so good these days).

I remember hearing it in Arlington, VA with no problem (the transmitter was in Silver Spring, MD) and we got good ratings with a MOR music format. I was doing news during the week and a Sunday DJ show that won its time slot.

I have a question though: Was O'Reilly's biggest mistake trying to take on Limbaugh and not Hannity?

One thing to take into consideration is time. When O'Reilly launched his radio show Hannity's had only been on for less than a year and at that point it wasn't were it is today. Plus O'Reilly was the highest rated cable news program back then, although I understand his ratings have cooled off and he's worn his welcome with some conservatives, which I'm sure contributes to lower ratings for his radio show.

Maybe I'm off base, but that's just my opinion based on what I know.

Though I wonder why O'Reilly's show is only two hours long?

Noon-2 is pretty prime time for syndication. Only one station can have Rush; sure, the same is true with Hannity, but there are more options for PMD. Also, while hannity is a huge star, Rush has more iconic status. And besides, being on three hours earlier gives syndicators more chances to clear a station, because stations can run it live or delay it until 3pm, 5pm, or 10pm. That's partially why there are so many 9-noon ET shows.

Regarding delays and Rush, I only know of two stations which delay his show. One, in my neck of the woods, is WHAM, which airs him between two and five because local midday host Bob Lonsberry has a huge following, and the other is monster powerhouse KOA in Denver, which also has a two hour delay airing from 12-3PM MT instead of ten through one. Of course Rush is the only syndicated program airing on KOA, everything else is local 8)

Dustin, to clarify, I was referring to delaying O'Reilly, not Rush. But you are correct; first off, KOA is a great station. You are mostly correct, although KFYI and KNST in Arizona delay him during the summer due to the DST issue. KHVH/Honolulu runs him 2-3 hours old from 9-noon, KENI/Anchorage I think still runs it an hour or so delayed to accomodate Rick Rydell's morning show, and WHO/Des Moines and WIBC/Indianpolis have always delayed it to 1pm. Why I know all this... :-\

...WISN Milwaukee delays Limbaugh an hour. Has since the early '90s...

There is no reason to have the radio factor for three hours. Two hours is just enough to hear Captian Phone Sex blovating, so to speak.
