I feel bad for anybody in radio that loses their job, but the enemy is NOT syndication....it is mediocrity.

Touche...couldn't agree more. But Phil, I gotta call you on your earlier comments regarding your optimism about the industry. Let's be fair about this: it's real easy for someone in your lofty position to be optimistic. It's kinda like Joe Kennedy, circa 1934, asking, "Depression? What depression?" ;D

Out here in flyover country, I contend it's a different story...

Phil...still waiting... ;D

(Sound of whistling, foot tapping)

Still waiting for an answer...

Why doesn't somebody hire Jay Marvin to make libtalk work? I ma be a conservative, but I ouldn't mind seeing the other side of talk radio. If the people at Air America were like Jay, then libtalk wouldn't be doing so bad. And whoever came up with the idea of a libtalk "network" (which used to even include news updates) had a terrible idea. Its just like ESPN radio and FOX sports radio. People want the peronalities, not the name. No station that brands itself as ESPN has had any major success.

The network is an OK idea if it isn't outwardly branded as such, since when AAR launched there was only Ed Schultz for stations to consider. If a network has good content 24/7 like FSR or ESPN, then it makes sense so stations can stay with the format all the time.

Really? None? Wow.

I know several program directors who would be surprised to learn that. Especially considering they're running successful ESPN stations.

Thanks for the heads up!

Seems to me a big part of the problem with libtalk is most of the hosts are trying to imitate Rush.

(1) They don't do his act very well.
(2) His act doesn't appeal to most liberals.

Anyone trying to immitate RUsh, whether on the right or left, misses the friggin' point: Rush is an entertainer first and foremost. Talk hosts should entertain us by talking in an interesting way about interesting things. Politics is only ONE thing.
That's the problem with Hannity. It's all about politics, and only politics.
If you're not with him, you're against him.

Plus the fact that he can't hold an argument against callers who disagree with him.

"Wait a minute..." "Hold on there..." are crutches he uses to silence criticism when he can't get a word in edgewise when he's being beaten in the logic arena.

AAR sucks because the talent sucks. Example: Hartman putting on right-wing authors who most people don't care about. OK how about and author about Hugo Chavez, Does ant one really care? How about Sam Seder yeliing "lets go to line seven." Does the the folks out there really care what line he's on? My prediction AAR is gone in a year. There's so much more I could go into. But I won't. No one in this format does well in the numbers except Portland. Otherwise the think stinks and is DOA in most markets.
