Servatius is a good investigative reporter but a lousy broadcaster with an annoying voice, although she was improving in the last few months. Kaliner is also a really good reporter. On the air, he was pleasant and well-informed, but pretty boring. Jeff Katz was just too rude and obnoxious. Vince Coakley? Awful choice. Like listening to your front lawn grow and another annoying voice. TV news anchors are at their best reading teleprompters, not doing live talk radio and Coakley is an obvious example. Wayne Powers? I didn't like him so much when he first was filling in a few years ago, but he's really come into his own over time. I've heard him do some pretty compelling interviews and handle the red meat political stuff with just as much ease as he does the general interest topics. He's informed and comfortable with local and national issues. Plus he's entertaining and knows how to have a conversation instead of talking AT his callers and guests. I really appreciate that and find myself sticking with him longer than I do other WBT hosts, so he'd be my first choice, but I have no idea if he's available or even interested in a full-time gig so who knows. For sure, the worst choice would be another syndicated show. The whole live and local thing that WBT has always bragged about and made them unique in the market is being lost and if they keep it up I'll bet a lot of listeners will be leaving too. Maybe they just need to find out the hard way. We can get those syndicated shows anywhere.
