Taz and Cole on Howard 101

I just tuned into Howard 101 and there's a live show on, "Taz and Cole." Does anyone know anything about these guys? I've only listened for a few minutes so far, so I don't have any take yet. I didn't hear Stern mention that these two guys would be on. It would be good if he would talk it up when he's trying out new talent, so we would know that there's new, live programming.

I caught some of the show last night. They did a "try out" show here in Houston about 2 years ago when KTBZ was in between morning shows. I think the new morning show was already signed up but not on the air yet, so it may not have been an audition for for that station, but just a favor from someone at Clear Channel to get a live show on tape...I'm not sure. But the thing that made the audition show in Houston really funny was they were playing off the local board-op Travis who ended up being the "stunt boy" on the Rod Ryan Show that became the new morning show. He's an easy target, and it was some funny radio.

Taz and Michael Cole are announcers for WWE Smackdown. Michael Cole has been with the WWE for a few years now and Taz joined the WWE after Vince bought the independant wrestling joint ECW, for whom Taz was a top talent, albiet oft-injured talent.

I guess this means it will be impossible for O&A to get wrestlers from the WWE on their show now that they are under the Bitter-Howard-umbrella

Tazz joined the WWE three years before Vince bought ECW and from what I have heard Cole and Tazz want this to be "independent" of WWE. They will do promotion and have wrestlers on but WWE will not be an exclusive of Sirius.

Yes it was weird how they were just on 101 without any promotion. I'm hoping that all us disgruntled fans can voice our opinion of the lousy WWE product and the corrupt sickness of pro wrestling.

Just for the record, what is lousy about the WWE product? Do you think it's fake and these guys are not athletes?

It may be choreographed but these guys dont leave the arenas without bruises and bumps. Therefore I give them credit, they are tougher than you will ever be NewsSleuth.

Thats ridiculous. So they get bumps and bruises? So does every YMCA league, softball league and sandlot flag football guy and at least they are competitive.

There is absolutely no competitive integrity in pro wrestling and don't prejudge that just because a guy is bigger he's tougher.

If you're satisfied slobbering over buff guys in tight pants fine just don't try to convince the more discerning members of society that we're missing something.

No I mean "lousy" as in the sense of being un-compelling television that resorts to lame shock value and recycles storyline after storyline. The WWE product hasn't been fresh for years.

And regarding the "sickness" look how many pro wrestlers have died in the past 10 years following the big pro wrestling boom. Way too many, most from heart attacks due from enlarged hearts (steroids). If this was any other profession like the NFL, MLB, or even the Screen Actors Guild, there would be an investigation as to why these deaths occur. But no one inside or outside the business gives a damn whether pro wrestlers live or die. It sad, and that is a sickness

All that stems from the fact the WWE has no athletic integrity.

If you have athletic competition you dont need "story lines". If the main selling point of your "sport" is how buff guys look you're not going to stop em from pumping up by any means necessary. Individuals in other sports may cross the line but other sports dont need everyone to be puffed up.

If you were informed about the topic that you wrote on you would know that WWE's Vince McMahon admited that wrestling was entertainment in the 1980's...He actually used the phrase "sports entertainment"...Then in the late 90's he went on T.V. again and admitted that they are in the entertainment business.

To go further, you could always ask the great Lawrence Taylor (who appeared in a wrestling match at wrestlemania 11) how he feels about pro wrestling and he will tell you that it was one of the hardest things that he has ever done...He had so much respect for the wrestlers that he gave the person he wrestled a rookie football helmet as a sign of that respect. He was also supposed to celebrate his "victory" afterwards, but he was so winded and beat that he was almost carried to the locker-room while trying to look like he just won in a "strong" fashion.
Or you could ask Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle what he thinks and he would tell you that pro wrestling is ALOT harder then it looks..
I also love the fact that most pro sports players respect pro wrestlers talents and treat them as ENTERTAINERS AND ATHLETES they will admit that when they are asked...Look at the winning team of last night's Superbowl..Their QB is a huge fan of WWE..
The bottom line being...these guys entertain but also take a heck of a beating and work very very hard at what they do..I'll gladly provide you with more examples if you would like...
Man people that are uninformed need to think before they speak/type....Thanks..later!

I don't think anyone is denying that professional wrestling is intense and takes a physical toll on the human body. All you have to do is look at all of the injuries that have occurred to various wrestlers in just the past few years to prove this point. I have been watching wrestling since I was a kid, and the fact still remains the same. Until the "Hulk Hogan" era, wrestling (pro or amateur) was not running rampant with steroid, pain killer, and drug abuse like it currently is, and has been for the past 15 or so years. Vince McMahon is the cause of what pro-wrestling has become. Every wrestler has to have "the look", and if you don't, you're screwed. There is no more competition. It's WWE or nothing. So if you want to make the big bucks in WWE, or even remain a mid-carder, you better be enhancing that physique somehow.

By the way, Bam Bam Bigelow was the opponent for LT at Wrestlemania 11, and he did not get a helmet as a gift for the match. He got the lawsuit, that LT levied on him, dropped. Please, refer to the last line of your post. Good screen name though. Archie Bunker would be proud.

That was sophmoric. I know what McMahon said. He told you its fake and you emrace it. Duh.

So LT likes wrestling? Well LT liked crack too. Ok cheap shot but LT ran around a football field for over 10 years slamming into guys and getting up to do it again for 3 hours. You got to be pretty gullible to think he can't handle that slap and tickle affair in the ring. It does make a good show however does it not.

Pro wrestlers are buffoonish caricatures, steroid grown 200+ pound weight lifters rolling around the canvas fake fighting. That may may cause bumps and bruises but that don't make it legitimate competition.

Some of the more well known wrestlers were failed football players like the Rock and Goldberg or Randy Macho Man a failed pro baseball player. Never heard of a pro wrestler doing anything else.

If all that turns you on fine. Again just don't try to foist off on the un-deluded.

Stljohn, I signed up for this forum and will probably never post again. I just want to tell you how far out of line you are.

You're not telling us anything new there, tough guy. We know that it's an athletic exhibition. We also know that when we see Will Smith save the world in "Independence Day," it's a movie that's fake, scripted, choreographed, whatever. Your insults are base and uninformed. And you spelled "sophomoric" wrong. Atta guy. I love your feeble attempts to sound intelligent...attempts at which you fail. Miserably. Keep up the good work, slugger.

I am a 25-year old male. I'm a teacher. With a Master's degree. I played NCAA baseball. I am a dedicated weightlifter and a trained professional wrestler. I tell you this because
a) I'm smarter than you and
b) I am assuredly in superior physical shape. I have never touched a steroid in my life, so don't try that route.

You have obviously never watched wrestling. Fine. So don't spout your rhetoric about something with which you're not even remotely accustomed. They are professoinal athletes, just as much so as any baseball, football, hockey, basketball or tennis player. Most of the workers have tremendous, decorated backgrounds in other sports...not just football. I could go on and on about the merits and athletic exploits, which, I'm sure, far outweigh anything you've done. There isn't an off-season in wrestling, and there's nothing fake about the physicality in the ring.

Are the endings pre-determined? Sure! But that's the nature of the entertainment. We make no bones about it, we know that they know what's going to happen, and often, we can predict it. You might not respect it, and that's fine. But really, no one cares what you think. So please keep your opinions, your insults and your mediocre attempts at adopting an informed, condescending tone to yourself. Thanks.

The only thing funnier then the gullibility of wrestling fans are the depth of their outrage when people point out how ridiculous the "sport" is.

Sorry I hurt your feelings my highly educated friend but if you were near as confidence in your intelligience you wouldn't have to shill it.

And you wouldn't make the most childish mistake of presuming that because I think wrestling is a joke I never saw it. My wife is an avid fan so I know exactly whereof I speak.

They are athletes, yep if you could read for comprehension I said that several times. What was that Masters in BTW, PE?

The thing that makes wrestling a joke is the lack of competition. Puffed up talking neanderthals playing slap and tickle.

Enjoy!

"The thing that makes wrestling a joke is the lack of competition. Puffed up talking neanderthals playing slap and tickle."

I’ll bet ya that you think the blood is fake and the chairs are made of rubber… I mean since wrestling is a joke and they are just playing it must be ALL fake… right?
I’d love for you to say these same exact things to an accomplished wrestler's face…most would laugh at you for your lack of knowledge and the others would simply show you that they are not playing with a stiff chop to the chest or some type of “wrestling move”.. There is no winning with people like you b/c you will always have “the answer” when in fact you do not have a clue.. <shakes his head >
Thanks..

OSR,
That was part of the gimmick in the match as far as I can remember…The angle was; at the Rumble when Tatanka and Bam Bam lost to Sparky Plugg/1-2-3-Kid, LT was sitting at ringside and was making fun of Bam Bam...So Bigelow pushed him...LT's entourage and the WWF staff do a pull apart...LT threatens to file charges against Bigelow for assault and sue the WWF for the incident. McMahon supposedly strikes a deal with the two men; Bigleow apologizes/They fight at Mania/LT drops the charges/Bigelow doesn’t touch LT again.
You see, it was all part of the story! btw, L.T. DID in fact present Bigelow with a football helmet from his rookie year…I know this for a fact and it was also stated in more then one interview with Bigelow. If you remember I said in the last line of my post “Man people that are uninformed need to think before they speak/type.” (and I know that you do b/c you tried to make me feel like a dope by referring to it) And I was dis-appointed b/c I thought kayfabe was dead!! You seem semi-informed but if you don’t know what kayfabe is…look it up.

As a matter of fact, I do know what kayfabe is and what it is to break it. I also know what a mark is and various other "rasslin'" terms. I wasn't intending to make you feel like a dope. I just didn't see where it was neccessary for you to type some of the unflattering things that you did.

Concerning the angle, you are almost 100% right. As far as the helmet, if he did give his rookie helmet to Bigelow, I have never heard about it and won't contest it, because I simply don't know. If you say it happened, I'll accept that at face value. What I do know is that the situation between Bigelow and Taylor was not a work, it was a total shoot, and the ensuing match at WM11 was brokered, promoted and signed by Vince McMahon for Lawrence Taylor to beat Bam Bam cleanly to avoid having LT sue the company and Bam Bam Bigelow personally. This has been verified through different sources over the years such as prowrestling.com and PWI insider.<P ID="signature">______________
