End of Conan's show tonight, live...Tim Meadows belts out the "s" word, twice, and it goes out on the live feed. No big deal, I guess, but I wonder if repeats will bleap it. A true new world in cable tv...

Yes, I stand corrected. The show was not sent out live. But I still maintain that TBS felt this was A-OK, and that is somewhat important. Previous shows did it, OK. But Conan is a new discussion, is it not?
The S word is considered OK on many basic cable channels. You hear the word constantly in scripted shows on FX and AMC, though they seem to censor it lately on Comedy Central before late night. Of course, there's the famous South Park episode of a few years ago in which Cartman and the gang said the word constantly while a little counter at the bottom of the screen kept track, and gave the total number of s..ts at the end of the show.
Not sure about TBS, though.

One movie can't remember if it was on TNT, TBS, or FX but they didn't edit out someone putting up the middle finger.

Just because nobody talked about it on the night it happen doesn't mean Conan's ratings are bad. It means that people are tired of talking about late night talk shows after all the various discussions relating to the shakeups that occurred earlier in the year. That is all.
Maybe now CBS can change the name of William Shatner's new show.
And even at that, yesterday there was some internet "news" sites talking about how Fallon and Leno, among others, feel about each other. I guess Tuesday is a slow news day, but it shouldn't be "Make Up News Day."BlueWanderer said:
As far as I know, the FCC regulates only broadcast media, and since basic cable is not technically "broadcast" (not OTA), networks like FX, TBS, and AMC do not operate under threat of FCC sanctions and fines, like regular broadcast networks. So the censorship they impose is basically voluntary.

On the scripted series, you'll also get the occasional quick flash of a bare female breast. No full frontal nudity, but occasional full 'backal' and full 'sidal' nudity....so to speak.

Relax, its a cable show at 11PM (10PM central). If you're worried about your kids seeing it, then maybe it's either time to remove the TV from their bedrooms, or learn to be a parent and make them go to bed at a reasonable time instead of Midnight (11CT).
If the above two options don't work out in your busy schedule of bitching about everything to protect the children you should otherwise be watching, parental controls are very nice, and easy to use. Or, worst case, cut the cord. Geeze.
PBS,WNET the same channel as Big Bird is on drop F bombs on saturday nights ,of corse after 10pm.on CBS I heard son of a bi$%h on Hawaii Five O. nevermind A$$,Dam,Bi$%ch on CBS sitcoms.I dont see any problem on cable tv channels,since it was after 10pm.OK it looks like in the next decade or sooner that all of George Carlin's 7 words that you can't say on tv will shrink to zero.

As they should. Sorry, but it's called the FIRST AMENDMENT, and the government regulating speech is a violation of that. I'm completely and totally fine that we require truth in advertising and TV ratings, so that you, the parent or easily offended citizen, can block access to the shows that you deem to be innappropriate or offensive. And as such, if these shows get no viewers (which many of them might if they go too far) then the free market will force them off the air.
It's about time that we take notice of European policy on this issue. In Europe, swearing on the air is not illegal, nor is it punishable by fine. What's the big problem over there? VIOLENCE. Know why? Because VIOLENCE actually harms children! It actually has been proven to cause psychological harm to children that see violence when it is not appropriate to them. Swearing does nothing but offend an ever decreasing amount of the population. The fact that we make it such a big deal MAKES IT SUCH A BIG DEAL! Again, in Europe, you don't see the roof caving in because swearing is rampant. Because it's not viewed as forbidden, there is no sense in going out of your way to say it.
What absolutely baffles my mind is that this is mostly a conservative republican issue. So this must be one of those times that the free market should NOT be allowed to work, right guys? No government involvement unless YOU want it, right?
