Tech, 790 part ways

That just sucks. I had this hope that Mostly News 106.7 would let this waste of airspace contract go away but with WYAY now becoming the sole home for Tech sports that screws with me. I mean we get a mostly news station and they want to tie up airtime with BS. I work in grocery so i have to work a lot when others are off and right now 106.7 is available for most of my commutes but if i want traffic on saturdays trying to drive home during football season i will just be jacked up. Why has cumulus put so much actual effort into the news organization (very unlike Cumulus to actually invest in a station) if going to put stupid crap on weekend mornings and keep stupid tech sports tying up air time.

IMO we're just biding the time until Tech moves to 92.9.

I always love it when journalists try to be "technical": AM watts verses FM watts. Just like when a plane crashes, the "Black" box. IIRC flight recorders are yellow, international orange or some kind of bright color so they are easy to spot in the wreckage.

The reported clearly did not understand the power of a radio station. That was main reason I asked why Rodney Ho did not write the article. The reporter was clearly out of her element.

The reason GT is still on 106.7 is because it came with the package when they bought what was then Atlanta's Greatest Hits. AM radio is all but dead, when the Braves left WSB in 2004,they wanted to be on FM.

Traffic apps on smart phones can relieve your angst of stupid GT sports programming getting in the way of you finding your way home from the grocery store.

I don't think GT will stay on 106.7 when the contract runs out.
I would be very surprised if 92.9 doesn't go after Tech. They are NOT getting UGA out of Cox's grip unless they are willing to write a check with a lot of zeroes on it. Also, CBS's reason for not retaining the Falcons during the Dave era (itself a leftover from Z93) no longer applies.

92.9 The Game has chosen their route by going basketball hence picking up the Hawks. Now, they need to pick up the Atlanta Dream over with the WNBA, and they'll be good to go. As for Georgia Tech, they may as well move to Q100 @ 99.7 on FM. 790 The Zone WQXI-AM dumping them was a big mistake. The only other viable AM alternative to pick up Georgia Tech would have to be 680 The Fan WCNN-AM, but 680 The Fan needs to dump the Atlanta Braves first before that can happen unless they don't mind causing scheduling conflicts amongst the sports team games. Does anyone know when the Braves contract at 680 The Fan is up? Scheduling conflicts do not need to happen over at any station covering sports team games PBP. Period. If you want to be a successful sports station IMO, you need to keep your coverage of local sports team games in the market you're in limited. You can't air PBP of every sports team game in the market. Let other stations of other formats pick the other teams up. Now, the Braves can move to KICKS 101.5 WKHX-FM. As for 790 The Zone, the only sports team left that they're stuck with is the Falcons. Good for them. And the Falcons can stay on sister station Star 94-94.1 FM WSTR as well. No more sports team games PBP for the Zone. That's enough, and it solves the scheduling conflict problem once the Braves move to KICKS. Anyway, that is all.

Traffic apps on a smart phone are not all they are cracked up to be. I still find a live radio voice more informative plus how much can i stare at my phone to see traffic maps while going down the highway. During football saturdays even the SiriusXM traffic channels have sports. Last night i heard about the mess on the buford highway connector on 106.7 and knew to get off at piedmont to make it to work. Two weeks ago i was listening to 92.9 and not noticing anything on my phone that mess made me late.

I realize you can't PBP everyone, but...

1) I kind of wonder why 92.9 picked up the Hawks when their last flagship was an FM translator and they were hoping to go big. Hawks will create conflicts galore with just about any other sport. Tech + Falcons would work well with few conflicts on Sundays. You could even conceivably add the Braves without too many conflicts unless the Braves go deep in the playoffs.
2) Would Tech/ACC basketball be a bigger draw than the Hawks?
3) CBS could use WAOK for an AM simul or PBP conflict reliever for the Hawks. Their AM night signal is good on the southside.
4) Why would the Braves go to Kicks? As a country station (and the older one to boot), and since Rock100.5 has trended younger/newer, is this to better exploit the listenership gap of an adult-format station?
5) Does anyone really NEED an AM side? Unless you're WSB, nobody offers a metrowide night signal that's worth a damn.

Tech isn't going to 680,because they now have UGA Football as well, the Braves would be good on Kicks because of the bigger signal, but i think they will eventually pick up Nascar, witch they should have done five years ago when Eagle went away,Q would be good for GT.

I thought WSB had UGA football

IMHO: NASCAR is on the downward slide.  Just look at some of the TV races and you will see a lot of empty seats.  Not that much interest in Atlanta or we would not have lost the spring race. Not even one the second tier AM's took NASCAR.

WSB (and WSBB and WXKT and WNGC) have UGA football PBP, pregame, and postgame. WCNN has some of the coach's shows and some kind of paid affiliation.

Atlanta is not the only track, this past weekend in Kentucky there were alot of empty seats,Nascar is like everything else since 2008 a victim of the economy, sponsor have either cut back or left completely.
