TEJANO LIVES IN KBUC 102.1/KZSP 95.3

Anyone off the street would be better than what they have now. Its as if they intentionally tried to hire someone with a horrendous voice. The syndicated show is just as bad. Entravision really pooched this one.

I wonder where they go from here? If they really wanted to do regional mexican, they should have just changed the name instead of keeping the Que Pasa name. Many people in the valley probably still associate "Que Pasa" with Tejano (which would be a huge problem).

On the contrary, looks like BMP cleaned up quite well with Super Tejano 102.1.

Speaking of Entravision, have they completely forgotten about Jose 101.1? I realize it's not full-power, but it seems like it could be pulling bigger numbers with that signal, which does make it to McAllen. Returning some type of classic rock/hits format to the station seems like it would be a positive move, considering 101.1's strength in the areas where 105.5 The X and Jack FM (post-loss of 95.3) are weak or non-existant.

(also, anyone else notice the changes at "Exitos 91.3" today?)

KKPS-FM Tejano Entravision 6.5 5.0 5.0 2.9
KBUC-FM Tejano Border Media 1.0 1.1 1.5 2.7

So what does Entravision do now?? They now know 100% norteno doesnt work in the valley, so what now? go after univison and flip to regional or back to Tejano?? there in a tuff spot...

I think mistake #1 was keeping the "Que Pasa" name. The brand itself is synonymous with Tejano kinda like "KQQK" in Houston was with Tejano (and still is if you ask longtime residents). Mistake #2 was hiring horrible talent to introduce your new product.

Then again, the "La Tricolor" network (which is what Que Pasa basically is) has not been known to dominate in markets where it has had competition. Going up against a market leader in Univision and a regional broadcaster in BMP is not easy. If I were Entravision, I would either rebrand completely or go back to Tejano with a blend of Conjunto and local artists. The Que Pasa brand had a lot of loyal listeners that have moved over to KBUC, so winning those listeners back will be hard. Then again, Univision and BMP own the Reg. Mexican market in the Valley (And lets not forget the other broadcasters across the border). All in all, this is a tough call.

Que Pasa 99.5 is now La Nueva 99.5. Same logo, same staff. Interesting to note that they are using the same voiceover guy (anyone know his name?) that KGBT used for so long in the past. Not sure what to make of that ???. I guess at this point, they have nowhere to go but up. Might as well copy what made KGBT so successful in the past and hope some of the older listeners make the switch.

Now if they could only get rid of their atrocious syndicated show and that lady who, hands down, has THE WORST voice in all of radio. No words can describe just how awful her radio voice is. I guess the PD has never heard her talk. Jeez!

Sounds like you're talking about Joe Morales. What a set of pipes.
