Tejano Moving to a FM signal

Any obvious changes with the change to "fm"

I was told by one of the Univision Puro Tejano djs that Univision will upgrade KPTI by the end of the this year.

I wouldn't take the word of one of the "djs" on this.

The last I heard, the application to upgrade the signal from a Class A at Crystal Beach to a Class C2 at Winnie hadn't been approved yet. The fact is that it's way down the list of pending applications and even if it's approved soon it might be sometime next year before the upgrade would be completed. Also remember that while the extra power and antenna height would put a good signal into Beaumont-Port Arthur, it would still be out of reach for virtually all of the Houston area.

DJ's are not engineers (unless they have an engineering degree, but if they do, they are DJ's for a reason ;D). jd is right, the application was submited, but it has yet to be approved. Even then, KPTI will have a hard time covering Houston because KTWL is on the way. Even if they buy KTWL from Roy, they will have their own KAMA on the way. Your DJ is lying to you.

Oh ok thanks for the info!

Also, look for Univision to unload KPTI as well soon. They are selling their non core stations. This means that more than likely, the following stations will probably be sold in the state of Texas.

KPTI - Tejano - Crystal Beach TX
KVWG - Tejano - Dilley TX
KHCK - Regional Mexican - Robinson/Waco TX
KAJZ - (Unknown) - Llano TX

Allow me to insert some geekiness here: Is KPTI going to remain KPTI? I would think the KRTX calls will make their way down to the dune on Monday with 980 getting new calls....or Aleluya going par for the course and just leaving them as KPTI, like they did with KBRZ when it moved to Mo. City.

Speaking of upgrades....what has happened to the one for the OTHER 105.3, KTWL/Hempstead?

Sadly most of these stations were in the way of upgrades of Univision's metro signals.
KVWG 95.3 is down to 100 watts to allow 95.1 to upgrade into San Antonio.
KHCK 107.9 moved from 100kw in Corsicana to 6kw in Waco to allow 107.9 to move into Dallas.
KPTI 104.9 Galveston was in the way of the 104.9 move into Houston.

But KAJZ has an opportunity to upgrade into Austin. BMP's KXBT 104.9 started off licensed to nearby Marble Falls, then moved to Dripping Springs and now a CP for the Austin suburb of Bee Cave.

I find it hard to move KAJZ to Austin. With KHFI on the way, it is almost impossible to make KAJZ sneak into Austin. Unless they move it up the dial. Could they sneak it into Austin at 106.7 or 106.5? I know KPWT is on the way, but other than this, I still don't see how KAJZ could move into Austin.

Tejano KVWG is a goner. Maybe moving around the dial a bit will give this station a chance to move into Laredo TX maybe? Who knows. To hard to predict the faith of this station.

KHCK is only there holding the KICK-FM call letters. It won't be hard to unload this station since it pretty much covers Waco nicely.

KPTI will probably be sold. I guess all Univision is trying to do is upgrade the station to cover the Golden Triangle so they can beef up its value.

Checking the dial this morning, looks like KRTX is still Puro Tejano and promoting itself as such. Maybe a flip tomorrow...

its amazing how you guys can get some much info out of the company especially since i work there...well not that amazing because you cant trust no one and keeping a secret...i wont bet on that...
anyways for the comments above...you guys are batting almost a 1000...i wonder if you can find out when those changes are to happen...and i havent said anything...

If 93.3 can co-exist with 93.7 in Austin why can't 96.3 co-exist with 96.7?

Yeah, but I heard that KDHT and KLBJ are an exception. I don't have the story behind it, but maybe, just maybe, Univision can make a case about KAJZ by using this as an example. Mhh, I still find it hard for 96.3 to move in. I'd say that their chances of getting an exception by the FCC is very slim.

93.3 and 93.7 are pre 1964 grandfathered class C's. Current rules prohibit new short spaced station like that anymore. At one time, they could have co-existed on the same.
