Temps reach a boiling point at the "Brine Shrine"?

Rib, who cares about Koch? This Pro Jo story is horrible for WPRO. It's being shown as a NUT HOUSE!
By tomorrow PRO will be a laughing stock in R.I. i'm told Fox News channel made a call to
the Pro Jo, so possibly national by Friday.

This is just the kind of thing that causes MANAGEMENT to lose their jobs.

How many people will be fired over there now? I'm not making any predictions. The last time I did that Depetro got to keep his job. So I'll just watch the train wreck and then comment later.

OK I'm neither defending nor accusing here, & it is bad press for the station, but it would be big of John not to press further with any lawsuit, police action, etc for the good of the station. If there's any permanent damage to his eye then maybe a quiet settlement can be reached, but think about it: this doesn't sound like Ron flung a memo intending any harm. It was probably just a natural angry reaction & a freak accident with the staple hitting John's eye. He probably couldn't do that again if he tried. I don't want to preach or sound unrealistic here, but certain parties there have to stop making each other miserable. Everyone there is successful in his own right. You don't get along? Fine! Then avoid each other as best you can & interface only when you have to. Compete with the competition, not with each other. Again, if there's some permanent damage I'm not suggesting everything be forgotten, but if not then just add this to another of the old wounds there that will never heal.

I agreee Runrigger. I think it was just extremely bad luck that John got swiped by a staple. It sounds like a bad episode of WKRP in Cincinatti. Mr. Carlson gets pissed and throws a piece of paper and the staple pokes Johnny Fever in the eye.... (followed by much audience laughter.) I guess it loses some of it's humor when it's not a sitcom.

Run and Sky, I wish St Peirre had your kind ways. He doesn't. I believe this is 'Karma' for all
the rotten things he's done to so many people. Even Paul Perry and Steve Kass were backstabbed by Ron.
Like I said, this is Karma. Lets see what happens next..
I tell you what, that Pro Jo story was by the Pro Jo number 1 reporter. This is far from over.

Boooooooooooooooooooooo

Yeah let's not forget this is a building populated by people who are not nice guys and will use anything that happens now as an excuse to get back at someone for something that happened five years ago. As far as the good of the station I don't think there's any kind of loyalty here. It's all "me myself and I". How does an audience take them seriously in the first place but then people who are talk show listeners probably thrive on controversy anyway so this is right up their alley.

I noticed the same thing about the Projo piece, Mike Stanton. I shall pray for the people inside that building. It seems to be full of malcontents. Ron just better hope DePetro does not file a police complaint. If the facts are the way they were reported, this is clearly assault with injury resulting. . .possible (unlikely) felony. All sorts of civil implications.

It has been a pleasure to read the Holland Cooke retrospectives of life inside the Brine Shrine back in the day. A time when the talent actually worked together and pulled for one another. Folks who would gather together with pizza pie and brainstorm fresh ideas to make "the station that reaches the beaches" better. We have all worked for places just like that.

These antics in recent months actually make Dan Yorke look somewhat normal. Plus, you've got the kid at night keeping his name out of the paper to scoop up the first spot that opens. He just might be the brightest guy in the building. "Hey, I work cheap and can move up."

This is a company that may be defaulting on bank covenants with it's stock about a nickel. This air staff in Providence is clearly the result of the market manager. She and she alone allowed this to happen and deteriorate to this level. Such a great heritage station left so embarrassed.

Are you kidding me? No ones getting fired. They'll be getting raises. You can't buy this sort of advertising. Just when i was starting to get bored w/ PRO, I'm tuning back in. Besides, if Depetro didn't get canned for his dispicable rating fiasco (throwing his wife under the bus ranks as one of the all time spineless moves), St Pierre ain't going no where. Maybe, just maybe, a suspension, but fired, no way. I will say the 1st thing that did jump out from this story, as someone else mentioned, is Koch disclosing Dr-patient information. That actually may be a clue to the whole thing being somewhat staged. Either that, or it becomes a future Projo headline

Blood, the ratings bull crap is nothing compared to 'assault' and a 'Civil suit' or should I say ' Suits'
The WPRO station manager has 'allowed' a pattern of bad work place behavior and enviorment.
Depetro has hired the best of Lawyers. I think St Pierre gets arrested, sued and so does the station. If
I were WPRO, I'd fire St Pierre with the understanding that after that action, Depetro will hold
Citadel harmless.

Booooooooooooooooooooooo

"Brine Shrine"? of the East Prov Police record.

come on--are you serious? i mean it's bad enough st pierre has to play the "ed mcmahon" character in the broadcast booth-buddy probably has a shock collar around st pierre's testicles, which he zaps everytime he needs a laugh after one of buddy's same-old wisecracks about providence--buddy-just leave providence really.
but for st pierre to have to fight buddy's battles-since when did the mafia hire the french to make hits on people-and of course the french, being the elite military--throwing a crumbled piece of paper--"take that, you silly fool" the station of record (yeah-police records) so glad jen brien isn't affiliated with wpro anymore--she should write a tell-all.

"Such a great heritage station left so embarrassed."

Yeah they must be really "embarassed" that they have a bigger rating than every other AM English language station in the market COMBINED.
Maybe the "Dead and National" station up the dial should be "embarrassed".

None of us here is a legal expert. Again, if there's permanent damage to the eye, then that issue is unfortunately going to have to be addressed. If not, & I were John's conscience, I would tell him he needs a public image makeover. I know the public eats this stuff up but let's face it: you have the remarks that got him fired in Boston, the incident where he crashed a WPRO remote, the Arbitron issue, & now this with the possibility of his taking further action. I would tell him he can change public perception of him by just ending this and coming across as a kinder, gentler DePetro. He really didn't cause this & frankly if Ron wanted to assault him he would have thrown a paperweight. Regardless of what insiders think of these guys' pasts, John's reputation has spilled over into the public limelight. Ron's image to outsiders has always been spotless. Maybe John wants to play a part in tarnishing it. Let it go away & come out of it looking like a better person.

And what precipitated all this? Poaching Bruce Sundlin!!!!! Hello? How about "take him, he's yours"?

I worked with Ron for many years in his latest tour of duty on the Trail, and while I am nether a fan of his nor a hater of him, this does not surprise me. He always had a temper, yelling at his staff (Kass, Laurie Johnson, various call screeners)

Working with Ron is a little like high school, he has his click and you're either in or out. Those that were in, liked him. Those that were out, hated him. I was somewhere in the middle.

He has always hated JD. I can remember back around 2002/2003ish when he was still the AM host and PD. The afternoon host's contract was up and Ron brought in JD to try and replace him...despite admitting to hating him with a passion. I only mention this show the amount of hatred amongst the on-air staff there.

Should Ron be fired for this? Ron has a long history with WPRO and losing his cushy gig for something this stupid would be karma, but i don't think the corner office has the balls. That is unless JD really pushes this hard....

Hey i'm not endorsing the behaviour. In a rightous world, Depetro would have been fired and possible banned from stations subscribing to Arbitron, wife would have kicked him out, St Pierre charged with simple assault and suspended, Cianci placed in a glass jar w/ Esserman and Dave Kane would get all 3 day parts fill in(actually ony kidding about Dave Kane). Reality is though, this benefits everyone involved in an industry dictated by popularity. Worse case, St Pierre gets suspended and Kane fills in.

Interesting. Why is Dr. Peter Koch blabbing about his patients condition? Maybe the good Doc needs a refresher on HIPPA privacy laws. Or, did JD encourage him to release the information to further his case against RSP?

Of course DePetro gave Koch permission to talk. It's obvious DePetro and his crowd went to the media with this after Holly the Legend In His Own Mind or perhaps Dave the coffee fetch for Billy Murphy Barber dopped a dime to Fountain St?? ;)
The hiring of the lawyer is a preemptive strike by JD to prevent the firing of his embarrassingly sad and pathetic arse without a leverage buyout. JD's removal is simply a question of when at this point. He's simply not worth all the trouble and lack of professionalism he brings.

I find it funny that John is complaining on Buddy "poaching" a guest when he does it all the time to not only Buddy; but also Dan & Matt. From what I hear, all is not as it seems....only one side is coming out so far. And I totally agree with the remark about Dr. Koch, unless he has the agreement of JD to disclose information about the injury...

Sad when alleged "professionals" act as school boys, throwing things in the hallway. Perhaps, the problem lies in this "school" with the "principal" who obviously in this instance, and others, including "books" cannot control her peers. Salty must be turning in his grave.

This "poaching" of a guest is nonsense! It's one thing if you are promoting having a big "get" coming up this Thursday, then a co-worker quickly trys to schedule the same guest for the preceeding Wednesday. This is not what happened. DePetro did his interview. Cianci and Ron just caught him in the parking lot and wanted to follow up on some other topics. NO HARM, NO FOUL.

If this line up of personalities is left in place, I fear something worse could happen. These are not civil people. What's next Mayor Cianci hits John with a fireplace log? Buddy not quite done smoking before the news is over, decides to put it out on Klamkins face?

Managament must "try" to take back control. I am afraid the horses are out of the barn. Corporate must change the corner office, like yesterday. Bye-bye Barbara. . .

letters to Citadel Bosses.

Jimmy, Yak, etc, I agree with all of you and your comments have been well thought out.

The sole problem is General Manager Barbara Haynes. She created and allowed a work place atmosphere
that is totally un professional and perhaps even dangerous. Haynes uses the fact that she's a woman
as a protection for her job. As a GM she's done Nothing.. A figure head at best.

If any of you have Farid's e mail address, would you please post it? I intent on sending him a detailed
history of the last year of said WPRO work atmosphere with news paper articles attached. thanks.

Bloodshot 56 has it absolutely dead on..

Hell this whole thing may have been staged to some degree..

Anybody who has ever worked in radio knows this goes on to some degree in every station everywhere..

I've worked with people who I hated..and people who hated me..I've had GMs throw travel mugs full of coffee at me..I've seen fist fights, and threats of bodily harm..I've had to dive under desks in a couple of incidents where I work now..I've seen lawsuits, given deposistions and had too much time wasted as a result..

If anything, the ProJo story this week is worth gold..copies of it are plastered on every nook of WPRO-AM..and everybody is having a good laugh..AM is dying a quick death in a lot of markets, and if you can keep yourself in the spotlight, you just buy yourself a little more time..that's all..
