Terre Haute

WBOW FM was off the air for a while Tuesday morning but came back on with the same format.

Hope Midwest doesn't go all cheap like last time and throw together a weak morning show and pipe in trackers from Green Bay. If they do, Hi99 has absolutely nothing to worry about, and we will be discussing rumors of another 102.7 format change in 18-24 months.

I'm guessing if Party Marty is going to Midwest he's going to do either mornings or afternoons. Steve Hall is a well known personality so I wonder if his talents will be used. Midwest doesn't care about heritage calls so I look for something different on the FM. Guess we'll all know midnight Sunday Morning. A big thank you to who ever made the decision to put The True Oldies Channel on WAXI! :D

Been listening to WBOW most of today to hear Julie and Kyle doing their final shows. Really sad stuff, you can tell the passion they had for local radio. They were talking this morning how both of them had done radio in Terre Haute since High School. Pretty amazing if you think about it. Best of luck to them and others losing their jobs today. Thanks for keeping us entertained over the years!

If you think that's confusing, here's what's going on in Lafayette...

WSHP (AMP-Classic Rock), WSHY (AMP-Sports), WSHW (Kasper-Hot AC)

WKHY (Schurz-AOR), WKHL (EMF-Christian AC)

They like to make things nice and confusing for the diary holders up there.

Where I understand a lot of people are upset over the AC format going away and being replaced by a format that's being duplicated across town, I also think that some competition is needed for WTHI-FM. With nearly 30% of the total listening audience listening to Hi 99, they can stand to have a competitor. With Hi being so successful and 99.1 in Champaign showing up, it might be interesting to have a locally programmed and hosted country station that plays a healthy dose of new country but doesn't shy away from playing the classics. That could give them a leg up over Hi 99, but it's going to take a lot of hard work, money, and patience in order to pry the loyal audience away from that station. Hopefully, Midwest doesn't opt to go the cheap route. If that happens, they may as well not even try because they'll get lackluster results (ie. Win 98.5).

People will chanel surf from one station to another. I dont know anyone besides radio geeks that are loyal to one station

Anyone listening to the new format on WDWQ?

No site that I can see as of yet.

It's pretty bland. Not terrible, but not real great. I might be a terrible judge on this because ive never been a real big fan of country music. Imaging is decent.

The 10,000 songs is nice to start, but once it ends they will have to be creative to grab listeners from WTHI.

Heard a couple of the jocks will be tracked in from other MWC stations, so apparently they didn't learn their lesson with WIN 98.5. If I was Hi-99 , I'd fire up a live & local campaign .

Has Midwest let Danny Wayne go? I figured when they launched X959 they were moving him over to 102.7 . Guess not.

Can't believe they have Steve Hall VT overnights, figured since he's a well known radio personality he'd be on afternoon drive. Be interesting if Party Marty will draw listeners??

How many format changes has 102.7 have over the years? Remember when the Oak Ridge Boys bought the station? Everybody thought it would be a great country competitor in TH. Instead it was a home grown form of Top 40. The Oak Ridge Boys were at the top of their game back then, and could have taken over the country format at that time. Back then the 102.7 billboards featured the Oak Ridge Boys logo. Talk about confusing imaging for a top 40.
Eventully 102.7 went off the air for some years before returning as a EZ listening station.
Call sign was WLEZ.

WTHI 99.9 has been country for so long that probably in Terre Haute, country will always be spelled HI-99.

Today Hi99 is old and stale, so the next few years will be interesting. Lots of voice tracking there these days.

At least 102.7 got a fresh set of call letters.
