We need something that's interesting, with someone (preferably a team of people together) who is capable of doing an exceptional job of presenting a variety of hot issues mixed with news in that 5-7 time slot. It just sounds appropriate for that time. I do enjoy that type of show, similar to how it's done from 4-5am, but maybe with more of an interactive talk morning show feel to it.
Honestly, I haven't listened to Terry Gilberg yet, since I'm rarely awake at that time, but from past experiences of listening to her, I figured it would be a good fit since I did love listening to her in 2006 and 2007 on Sunday's. I love the way she speaks, arranges and chooses her wording, and the way in which she conducts her show. I also love the fact that she does cover a variety of topics, rather than always leaning towards one main area of discussion with multiple topics stemming off the one main issue.
I doubt that we will find anyone to outshine Barry Young, but it would be nice to find someone who is a good preceder to his show, that builds up the "energy" to his show. Bruce Jacobs and a few others do sound better in afternoons in my opinion. Mike Broomhead, who I also like, I say also sounds better in an after - noon (meaning after morning ends) weekday slot, or a morning weekend slot. KFYI should also make their Sat. & Sun. shows more interesting, and that's probably also a good place to give certain people more airtime, if they are willing. Bob Martin is good where he is, and Kim Commando is as well, but we need more interesting informative shows in addition to those. Leo Laporte following by Bill Handel, with some Broomhead or Gilberg action followed by Coast to Coast was good enough for me, even though somewhere along that flow something just doesn't really fit in... They could bring back the Leo following Handel, with The Best of Nearly Famous Barry Young coming in between Leo and Coast to Coast, with Broomhead and a few others coming on before Handel on The Law, for Sundays.
