Test Driving Mics

Does anyone know of any retail outlets in the Northeast (New England, New York City) where you can test-drive a mic?

I'm looking for an outlet that has a small booth where you do voice test recordings to judge the quality of the mic.

Guitar Center will let you test mics. But the ones I've been in don't have booths. They need to build them. It's worth it when they sell Neumanns, BLUE's and AKGs.
______________

But don't you ned to judge it against YOUR room's acoustics, not to mention your processing gear, etc??

A buddy of mine said Vintage King will send you mics. Just need to have a credit card should you break/steal it. That way you can test with your processing and room.
______________

SE Electronics will allow you up to 7 days to test-drive their mics...they have a nice variety of tube mics and condensers...all pretty affordable too. I tried out one of their mics, loved it, but didn't have the cash to back up my lust at the time. Still considering ordering it later this year ( last minute tax write-off! ), but you can contact them, tell them what you want to try, and they'll put a hold on the funds on your credit card and ship it to you...www.seelectronics.com

I've seen ads in EQ and other mags for B&H Music in Manhattan (9th ave at 34th st). They appear to have a nice room with a host of mics and mic pre's in a semi-soundproof room where you can test-drive a host of mics...from cheap to not-even-close-to-affordable...www.bhphotovideo.com

Check 'em out. J&R Music World down in lower Manhattan sells tons of gear too, but I don't know what their mic-test situation is like...www.jrmusicworld.com

Hope that helps...

I've never heard of it being compared to either mic.
______________
