Please. Do you and your ego really believe the stuff you type?

Mornings in the Seattle Region will not be the same! You can go knowing you've made a difference!

There comes a time when all good things must end ... I know, because my end has come many times. :)

Yes, it's sad - but not in a boo-hoo way. No matter what, Ich-uh-man will be fine. For one thing, his eye is on a bigger prize. For another, I believe him to be a frgual guy and will be good financially. He's not using the "retire" word so I would not assume anything. I don't think it was his choice but no matter - it's all gonna end well for Ichabod.

I only worked with him a few years - KJR and KNBQ - and rarely will any of us be around a more stand-up guy, a straight shooter and caring gentleman. He can turn off the mic Friday with huge pride, although he's not a prideful guy.

I'll pass on one of my favorite Ichabod memories.

He had been let go at KJR right before a staff meeting. To this day I don't know why and also aren't clear why they kept ME (at least for awhile :). So we're in the conference room hearing the news that Ich was cut - a rather somber atmosphere. Ichabod opens the door. Obviously very emotional, he just wanted to take a moment to thank us all for being part of his life and told us we were a terrific staff, that KJR was still the best in the market, that he loved us all and was grateful for everything. With that he was gone.

A lot of silence in that room. One of the classiest things I've ever experienced and shaped the way I approached the future firings that were inevitable.

Few have had Ichabod's run. And it ain't over yet ...

Great story Dancin' Danny! Remember those Tacoma 'Super-Q' daze?
:)

Ich was suddenly let go there in early '83 by 'bang-bang' (as Ichy called him) GM Jack Bangston
because of the mistake of a previous newspaper press release about his upcoming new
morning gig then at KPLZ-FM - (which for Ich didn't last very long)...

Incidently, he legally changed his name back in 2000 'to' Ichabod Caine (from Randy Hansen)

So goodbye 'Randoon' (Ich's Spokane KJRB-AM name) -
- Extremely bad timing for this to happen,
but at least you're still very much well and alive to close this curtin

Lovin' the final show ... because he, like most other radio vet's, does a better job by throwing out the rule book and putting on a dang good show. I've been there many times ... usually a "format swan song" show and you just feel a lot more liberated and the shift becomes a lot more entertaining because it's different -- people listen because they don't know what they'll hear next (always has been the key to generating TSL). Not saying radio should be renegade ... but I don't think there is much dispute that is has become AWFULLY sterile thanks to all the idiot consultants who have stripped every ounce of personality off the air. Thanks. This morning kind of magnifies that aspect.

I'm amused that in this year of one heritage show after another leaving the market airwaves ... that you brain surgeons STILL seem to be more focused on setting up transmitter patterns for fantasy stations, or arguing the nuances of placeholder station signals while ownership is worked out, etc. Did it occur to you that you are possibly witnessing the downsizing of an industry that could VERY LIKELY mean there will never be an opportunity for some of you to advance into cracking a mike? Or what scares me even more is that you will not have any mentors left who can inspire you to do something interesting IF you ever DO get than chance. You can't ALL mimic Howard Stern and expect to have the same outcome!
