The AAA format here and around the country

Dammit all...I guess we're doomed as a market to discuss AM stations we can't even pick up. This would not have gotten
this far if C. Romer hadn't a killed Lucky 13.

Read below, here we go again...actually it is all pretty entertaining, huh? Think KY Scott is TN Scott's alter-ego? I hear they
used to do that in radio back in the day.

4 posts to tell Scott how to run his station and you compare Wayne County (show of hands of how many people have ever been there) to Sumner County!?! Is that all you've got? Talk about totally different ball games. Guess what? We're in the "big city". We're overflowed with media. We have radio stations and tv stations and newspapers bleeding out of our ears and it's every format you can imagine. It's just a little competitive here. Having someone apply for jobs to follow city council and police blotter and Aunt Martha's social gathering is a little tougher here too, where people can drive 20 miles and make actual money, than in Wayne County (I think I'll work at the radio station or the Sonic. Hmmm).

In no way did I say Sumner county was like Wayne county. However I used the comparison because in some ways they are alike. They both have people interested in what's going on directly around them. WWON filled that need by keeping people informed on what was going on in Wayne county and covering Wayne county events. How many Nashville stations cover what is going on in Sumner county outside of a major event? 0. You don't serve your listeners by plugging in a satellite receiver and walking away. Ooh, but I forgot, this is just a hobby for Scott so he could put a 400 hz tone on and it wouldn't matter to him.....yea, right.

ntry to pull that off. Guess what - Gallatin is a glorified fringe suburb of Nashville now (thanks to the recently extended bypass, it will get even more so).

Regardless of where it's located, people want to know what's going on in their community. They could care less about how many people were shot in down town last night. Cover the goings on in your community, and you'll have a loyal listener base regardless of your choice of music format. Why do you think the FCC is suddenly concerned about localism? Why do you think the Nashville stations cover Nashville? Because people in Nashville want to hear what's going on in ...... wait for it ....... NASHVILLE! Same premise works anywhere. I know, I've seen me do it!

for years WHIN did swap 'n shop live with the callers on the air.."i have a parakeet for sale " then ..one day..a different caller dialed in and when put on the air said i have a big d**k for sale..benny williams calmly cut the caller and said..."and to recap, other items for sale....." from that day on..we played instrumentals and took the calls and wrote down.."i have a parakeet for sale..."

Best I ever heard was in Manchester Kentucky. Fellow with a deeeeeeep east Kentucky drawl called in and said he was looking for some cow $h*t for his garden. I liked to have ran off the road. He didn't know you couldn't say $h*t on the air and the board op was too slow in getting him off the air.

Like I said, you can't write this stuff.

Why should I start a thread??? It'll only get taken over by more talk of WMRO. Why don't you all do us a favor:

WRITE THE $1,000,000.00 CHECK and move the station to K-Y. Lighten up! I was only kidding. I find this all
pretty entertaining in a puritanical sort of way. I have nothing to add to you and Scott's AM-fest that hasn't
been stated on here before. Keep on fighting the fight.

I do have one question though??? Scott-K-Y explain how you can do this???

You stated in your last post --- " I know, I've seen me do it! " --- IS THERE A THIRD SCOTT we're about to
meet??? FTLOG, help!

Post on! ???

Your last post indicates that a Sumner County station should then be billing $250,000 plus a year. Then why isn't it?

It's a "hobby", remember? Scott keeps it on just so that he can go around and brag about how he's an owner. Then he can whine and complain that he needs a translator to serve all the people that don't listen.

Can't. Remember Scott was bragging about how he would not sell it. And that when he takes his dirt nap, he's turning the license back in. Cause it's just a hobby.

Dude, we are like ChickenMan......We're everywhere, we're everywhere!

i've just phoned my broker and told him to buy all the arbor mist stock he can...sales are about to go through the roof...

Nashville stations cover Nashville? Really? Have you listened to what is left of the news departments at WLAC and WSM lately?

The I know, I've seen me do it - wow. "Lord - it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way!" Somebody somewhere may want that "local perspective", but the economics are not there.

Now, let me take my place at the board chalkboard and write out my punishment:
I shall write no more about AM. I shall write no more about AM. I shall write no more about AM. I shall write no more about AM. I shall write no more about AM. I shall write no more about AM. I shall write no more about AM. I shall write no more about AM. I shall write no more about AM.

Yorkie --- can I join the AM punishment board bandwagon?

I shall drink no less AM. I shall drink no less AM. I shall drink no less AM. I shall drink no less AM. I shall drink no less AM. I shall drink no less AM. I shall drink no less AM. I shall drink no less AM. I shall drink no less AM. I shall drink no less AM. I shall drink no less AM.

I miss the old RI gang, AM or not. It's to quiet. Thread group hug!

Anybody wanna beat up on The Fan or something?

Tibbs, I'll offer you and the RI board an FM exercise. Going left to right on your radio dial, commercial stations only, name one good quality and one room for improvement suggestion for each station. 92Q, Mix 92.9, ..., 107.5 The River.

That's better than what we have here in Louisville. 5 minutes of fox news followed by a one minute reader. Yea, that's covering local news alright. I would love to see the ratings of our local NPR station. They do a better job at local news than WHAS does anymore.

The I know, I've seen me do it - wow. "Lord - it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way!" Somebody somewhere may want that "local perspective", but the economics are not there.

Sure they are. I have been in radio (and to a lesser extent television) for the past 28 years. One thing I have learned is that people want to know what's going on around them. Localism I think is what they call it. That, coupled with giving them actual personalities to listen to (instead of plugging into a satellite service), is a win-win situation. I have done it in markets smaller than Gallatin. I like to spin Dave Ramsey's saying "Live like no one else so you can live like no one else" into "Program like no one else so you can program like no one else".

Now, let me take my place at the board chalkboard and write out my punishment:

What is it that you have against AM? The FM dial is no better as far as programming goes.
