The Big Show- WWBA

We have a new web guy and he's redoing the morning show site. I would suggest that you listen in the morning to set your mind at ease. Believe me, I don't get up at 3AM for the fun of it and it damn sure isn't the money...it's the passion, plain and simple.

I'd listen, but I'm currently out of the area... and up for morning drive doing my own thing.

Otherwise, I'd listen. Promise.

TAMPA - Two veteran radio news reporters have been laid off from Tampa talk station WWBA, 820 AM. Roger P. Schulman and Shayna Lance said they were let go from the station Friday.
Bruce C. Maduri, president of Genesis Communications, the family-operated company that owns WWBA, could not be reached for comment.
Schulman confirmed he had been fired but declined to comment. Lance said she has no hard feelings. "Things like this are happening in radio all the time," she says.
 
Just because this clueless debate is getting sad, 99 is the number of weeks unemployment compensation benefits are available with repeated benefit extentions and a 99er is a perpetually jobless person who exhausts them all.
 
Alicia Kaye was filling in for JoJo Kincaid, so I guess CBS is still paying her.

I can't answer for Alicia, directly, but when a station changes format, that is never anything personal. It is the personalities that don't adapt.

Never were they promised the format and conditions wouldn't change. It was up to the employee to adapt or move on.

It is always easier to keep the ones you have rather than hire new ones.

Those who adapt, will always have a job.

Back in the day stations evolved from Standards to MOR to Top 40 and kept the same air personalities. Examples are Herb Oscar Anderson in NYC and loads in Pittsburgh like Art Pallan, Dave Scott, Henry Dabecco, and Bill Lynch to name a few.
 
...and this morning, Mike Reeves was supported by Pete. No JoJo. Any/all e-mails to the "Big Show" are sent directly to Lee, the number 2 person at WWBA. Now the "format" mimics "Headline News" and/or "Bay News-9." Television formats/programming do NOT translate/transfer into the audio/radio realm. Sad to see Roger and Shayna get canned. Is/was JoJo next?? With all the scat/fart "humor" in the beginning, lame bits throughout, the "fun" we {listening audience} we supposedly are/were having, elementary commentary by Reeves, etc etc; I am surprised it/they (Big Show) lasted as long as it did. Heck, back on July 4, 2010 (Big Show six month mark) Reeves (or whomever the producer was) re-played their Memorial Day 2010 "salute," complete with saying something to the effect, "...Happy Memorial Day show..." Huh? Now WWBA resorts to lame redundant formats similar to HLN TV etc. As with "Bay News-9" the "Big Show" has lowered itself to becoming an ad campaign for mediocre businesses and attractions throughout the Tampa Bay area. Much to do about nothing..."...loose weight fast..." "...I heard on Maher's show..." "...so and so resturant..." Doubt me? Listen for yourselves.

No sign of any of the original Big Show FAB 4 on WWBA site

I heard Mike Reeves though, doing some ad interview with a hair transplant guy. It was very riveting!!!!

Yeah, heard the "interview" with the cosmetic surgeon and the hair transplant guy. Immensely pertinent information; ought to move those "interviews" {paid adverstising} to WHNZ. Either Tuesday or Wednesday, some guy named, "Roy," called in to "challenge" Reeves. This gentleman "Roy" was either one of two things; a caller whom NEVER listened to the show, or was a schill/plant by someone. Why? Reeves NEVER counter-challenged a caller-ever. Basically, he began to "argue" with "Roy;" something he has NEVER done in the past. The caller stated that Mike Reeves was a "right-winger," "mouth piece for the Republicans," and "{paraphrasing} Pro-Scott." It is sad to see WWBA resorting to staged-yes, staged-"controversy." Then, the interview with the cosmetic surgeon, followed-up with a caller named, "Terry." "Terry," a self-professed African-American, rebutted "Roy's" comments saying Mike Reeves is "middle of the road" and that "Roy" {whom is from the Bahamas or something} is "ill-informed" etc. Unheard of sequence of callers to the "Big Show." Unheard of. Then, there is the whole "ABC News" as source reporting. Huh? ABC?? Robert Pankau, morning show producer for WWBA, is lack lustre at best... ABC News?? Mark Larsen did the right thing a year ago- BANNING Ann Compton from the mornings because of her being a schill for the current Presidential administration. You know Farakhan is coming to Tampa at the end of October...when will WWBA in the mornings offer tickets? (Michelle B Patty, on Saturdays on WWBA, has offered them. Oh well, Michael Savage is on, so far, at 6 p.m.EST on WWBA. Sad to see "Dave Ramsey" go as well on WWBA.

Brenda Lee, of Ron and Ron Fame, Hooters on The Radio, and The Sports Chix has assembled her all-star team. The lineup includes Bill Freitas of ESPN Radio, CBS Sports radio, and Creative Loafing. And last but certainly not least, the talented Shayna Lance.

Be sure to check them out weekdays from 2-3 p.m. on WTAN-AM 1340. It is a great show!
