the bloodbath is here......

Right. "Hey sales team, we're changing formats sometime, we won't tell you when, in the meantime don't take any money so that when we we launch the new format we have no spots and the old station has no money coming in for now. Because the economy is so good right now we don't every freakin' penny we can get. You know, we just let go of a bunch of people for the hell of it."

WOW.

Also confirmed within the last 2 weeks with regard to part-timers, a post earlier assuming Big Hits & CLZ midday shows were covered by P/T, that is correct. Only a handful, and I do mean handful ( you can count the number on one hand ) of P/T remain as on-air jocks at PRG. Most of those talents that do remain on part-time status have very, very few hours. All others have been laid off until further notice and a couple have even left PRG altogether. Full-time salaried jocks will most likely be on their same show 6 or 7 days a week.

Portland radio looks to be as %^$#ed up as Bangor. (and that's saying something)

Shouldn't Saga look at the decision makers at PRG?

Start with the 'boy genius' who helped sentence Howie Carr to five more years at 'RKO. The emperor has been wearing no clothes for years.

This afternoon I was outside the health food store looking for empties. The door was open and I could hear they had WCLZ on. (Usually it's on NPR.) Randi K. was going on about how glad she was it was Friday, and how it was a loooong week, especially for her.

At least she doesn't have to look for bottles and cans!

If you're employed, especially at the (South) Portland Radio Group, count your blessings and toast to luck!

Cheers,

Somehow, I don't think the downturn in the economy is Mr. P's fault.
The problem isn't just the economy. There's been some slow or no decisions at PRG in the past.'MGX & 'POR at one time were at the top and the decision makers just let them fall. This was happening during the good economy.

They could follow the trend with simulcasting a successful talk format on FM like WBZ and other stations nationwide by placing WGAN on 100.9. WGAN AM & FM. It would give them better night coverage as well. As for 970, relocate 'The Bay' programming there! The numbers would certainly support it and historically that format did well on that frequency.

Have you lost it????? That happens ALL THE TIME when major formatic changes are planned to take place yet the company does not want to let any staff (or certainly the sales staff if you know what I mean) knoW what the new format is until it launches.

If Saga is going to change WYNZ to "Hot Talk" for example, they don't want the reps selling Easter schedules to Rosemount Foral or the campaign to Scarborough Terrace when the demographic of the station is going to change dramatically. If your currently reaching 54 year old woman today and your going to be targeting 26 year old guys tomorrow, you DO EXACTLY THAT.
