The Boston Radio Market As A Whole

Last weekend I was in Indianapolis, and I was once again reminded at just how "different" Boston radio is in comparison to the rest of the Country!

Both their Top 40 and Hot AC stations sounded quite fresh with a good mix of both mainstream and Rhythmic type music mixed in. I heard at a fast food place them listening to an R&B station that seemed to feature "Classic" R&B which sounded quite fresh as well.

True, we are talking apples and oranges in comparing the 2 markets, and Boston is still very much perceived as a rock town. But when you consider that Indy's CHR sounded much more desirable than Kiss 108 it has to make you wonder.

In relation the Boston market seems dole and boring compared to the little that I heard in Indianapolis instead. And its not just there, I have noticed this while being in both Chicago, San Francisco & Philadelphia as well.

I hope that one day the executives in the Boston market would take a cue from one of these other markets and try to program accordingly instead.

Boston Radio Market is Garbage ! All these Rock stations, and none of them are any good . One good Sports Station ( WEEI is great, But 1510 and 890 SUCKS ) and good College stations, and thats it. Boston Radio Market is America Basket Case ! Thank God, their Pirates all over this Market !

Im in a band and we played in Texas a while back and we drove down. We had Sirius in the van but once in a while we would just see what was on regular radio and believe me when I tell you, Boston is FAR superior than any market between here and texas. Except maybe Philly and NYC.

I pretty much only listen to BCN in the afternoon for T and R and AAF in the middays for Mike Hsu, then for obvious reaons when Im on the south shore or on cape its PIXY 103.

P.S. on air right now at pixy you can listen online at www.pixy103.com.

Sorry for the shameless plug

Thanks man I appreciate it! Will do, I get to do my first crossover today with him

I totally agree with you Retro. When I've travelled I've noticed markets like NYC, Philly, DC, Miami etc all are very different then here in this aspect. Even driving thru CT there is a HUGE difference, especially on the Rhythmic/R&B/Hip hop/Top 40 side of things. Stations like Hot 93.7 shit on Jam'n 94.5, and CHR's tend to sound better than bland Kiss. When I listen to the radio in these other markets it always seems like they are playing the fresh, new music and Boston's stations are stuck playing old stuff from 4 months ago. Always has been the case.

You know, Rapking, all I ever hear from you is negativity. When can you just not answer anything?

Anyways, I like Boston for what it is. The cape on the other hand, needs work.

I've read somewhere that rap will be dead in ten years.
And That was Year 1979 Sugerhill Gang " Rappers Delight ", Rap First Big Hit. 1979 That music will not last, Its a fade . Well thats a very LONG FADE ( 1979 and still going on strong in 2008 ). So-called Music Pro's , always get it Wrong (They Once said, Rock its just a Fade , Yeah Right )

I think you mean a fad, not a fade, although fads tend to fade away after a while...
