The buzz about Pulse87

nd2023

Banned
Just on this radio message board, there were many more posts about Pulse than about 101.9. In fact, there's a backlash against 101.9 for dropping smooth jazz. However, there's no backlash about 87.7 dropping Russian. Rock fans have 2 outlets for rock, and dance fans only have one little station.
I need an excuse to go to or around New York City just to listen to Pulse87...
I wish its signal weren't nulled towards my part of New Jersey or towards Connecticut

I guess you could say that there's more hype about Pulse because it's something a bit more different (probably getting Star & Buc helped a lot too). But there's still been a healthy amount of discussion of RXP, and any backlash has been minuscule compared to, say, Jack or Free-FM. And there may be multiple rock outlets, but just as dance music fans are discontent with KTU, a lot of rock fans are discontent with K-Rock. RXP has shown some promise of being what the rock fans are looking for, though (IMO) they haven't delivered too much on it so far.

one can only wonder.... how are they coping without kenny g, sade and candy dulfer?

pushing martini hour to 11am? giving into satellite radio? lounging in a starbucks for a good hour or so? flooding kenny g message boards?

i feel their loss and pain. cd 101.9 was the one station i could put on at night if i really wanted to fall asleep relaxing. even their failed, experimental chill was something that could've had some potential- differently intriguing. my only hopes are that 101.9 realizes that nyc's, well, just not that big of a rocker and figures out a way to welcome Pulse 102..

or put smooth jazz on 92.3

and can someone please for the love of God, make an offer to Family Radio to buy their wasteful flamethrower 94.7? Hot Country would sound so much better than narcoleptic sermons.

The Buzz on here is the same 5 people on each thred though. *shrug* I'm still yet to really get any clear listening time to buzz about anything but the static I've heard.

My band has over 1000 friends on it's myspace page... wouldn't necessarily call it buzz.)

My Internet station's got 1000 friends, too!

I wonder if the webmaster of the Pulse Myspace was mass-soliciting friend requests, just like many bands do, incidentally...

Re: The GRIPE about Pulse87

ok, i'm still lovin the new pulse and i'm feeling good about it.

however...

my only gripes so far (and I hope they're reading this):

can we please make pulse 87 a 'NO NICKELBACK ZONE'... Please, every other friggin station's playing the sounds of Bea Arthur on steroids. Nickelback remixes need to go and the person that originally thought, hey, I can remix Into the Night should be beaten with the stupid stick.

Enough with the constant Justin Timberlake remixes, PLEASE!!

Get rid of the Miley Cyrus remix of See You Again. Her vocals are drowned out by this incredibly odd concoction.

How soon will Pulse add more music? I'm hearing a lot of repetition that might grow old on some people.

Please add the following stuff soon:

Stellar Project 'Get Up Stand Up'
Kristine W's Fly Again, Stronger, One More Try, Save My Soul, I'll Be Your Light and her new Walk Away w/ Tony Moran
Erika Relations
Erasure's new stuff (sunday girl, i could fall in love with you, etc.)
Ferry Corsten Rock Your Body Rock, Beautiful, Out of Control, Watch Out
Darude's Tell Me
Rockell's Playin' My Love
Judy Torres' I Don't
Sharam's P.A.T.T
Kim Leoni's Again
Da Buzz's Let Me Love You, Alive, Take All My Love, Baby Listen to me.
Plumb's In My arms
Basshunter's Boten Anna or the english Now You're Gone
Deborah Cox Everybody Dance
September's Satellites, Can't Get Over and the new Until I Die
Kate Ryan's Scream for More
Real McCoy Runaway, Another Night, etc.
Ace of Base Beautiful Life
Shakira/Beyonce's Beautiful Liar (freemasons remix)
4 Strings Turn it Around
Anything by Stonebridge
Paul Van Dyk's Let Go, We're Alive, Tell me why f/ st. entienne, Crush f/ Second Sun
Amber's This Is Your Night 2008 show or pathos v2 mix, Melt With the Sun, Just Like That, Yes!, etc...
Gina G.
Lucas Prata's I Think I'm Falling in Love (it's not one of my fave's, recv'd very little play, but pulse might bring it to life..)
Gioia (the former expose girl)

just a thought... feel free to add anything!

Most of the records that you listed are recurrents or gold. Like most stations you probably find that they will freshen those up weekly.

Dance music is covered on the East Coast.

New York has Pulse 87 and South Jersey/Philadelphia has Z88.9/95.1.
This is a beautiful thing.

We've got dance in Central Jersey!

Starting at 8pm on 90.3 The Core (WVPH FM Rutgers Livingston/Piscataway) www.thecore.fm

Join me tonite at my NEW time (no, i'm not kidding and i wish i was..how i miss my 8-10/10-12 slots)
2am-4am for what was Friday Nite Fresh Beats.

Fresh beats and yesterday's backspins!!

I'm taking suggestions now as to what to call the show:

Screwed over w/ DJ stormz
Who the hell is really awake at 2am anyhow?
or Hey, Listen to me Sleep on the Radio!

First off get it out of your head that this is going to be a pure dance station. Those pop remixes do very well at dance radio and are very much needed. Remember they are looking to get new listners to listen to a station that is at the beginning of the dial. Into the Night is Santana with Chad Kroeger, not Nickelback. The song is doing well too. Miley Cyrus is also doing well. Those are very important songs

Ok, I understand your point and it's well taken...

But c'mon already!! Pop remixes are fun and all, interesting and catchy, but Chad Kroeger? Rock to pop to a pop remix is a hot mess, that's all.

Regarding the Miley Cyrus remix, I like it, I just wish the chorus wasn't so drowned out.

I know it's going to be a pure dance station, I'm well aware of that. However, they need to cap off the pop remixes if they're going to wanna retain and expand their audience. If I wanted pop remixes in between disco all day, I'd put on KTU.

Btw, congrats on getting Kalina. He's quite the talent and will do great justice for the station. :)

Myke....in this case, I do agree with Brett (Dancerev889),

Pulse 87 is a rhythmic CHR first, though current dance intensive and serves it well! And yep, those pop remixes ARE necessary. I knew that as the station was being announced a few months ago. They may be current dance intensive but they DO play R&B, a little hip-hop (Flo Rida) and even reggaeton. And there is a big picture behind it. Core dance fans are going to support dance music no matter what. It's just a matter of trying to attract a new crowd in. And if an R&B/hip-hop fan hears their music on Pulse and stick around to hear Erika Jayne, Plumb, Alex Gaudino and actually LIKE it, then we get more potential fans over to stay glued to the station and perhaps turn them into dance music fans in the process. Regarding pop remixes, even Hot 103 when it launched were playing pop remixes of songs throughout. As long as current dance is in the mix, NOTHING wrong with the pop remixes. And once again, it gets back to the crowd that may not know all that much regarding dance music...at least they KNOW Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Pink, Shakira.

I gotta say, that new Mary J. Blige track at Pulse "Just Fine" just GRABS me!

There is buzz about the station. Even on other boards. Whether someone likes a dance format or not is irrelevant. This station is discussed in relation to dial position, signal, Star and Buckwild, etc...............that is called buzz-people talking about the station for whatever the reason. Look at posts and how far back they go before the format switch. This station has been anticipated for quite some time.
How many listen to the station is another story. I suppose only time will tell that one....
I for one hope they succeed not only because I like dance music but also because I think their ability to think outside of the box is genious in today's radio environment.
It is probable that between NPR, my Ipod and Pulse I will listen to little else.
