The Clown On KAAM 770 On Saturday Nights

Hey WCFLWLS,

Are you an unhappy, former KAAM or Crawford employee? Your constant complaints about KAAM seem way over the top to me.

I listen to KAAM off and on most weekdays and it sounds just fine -- I'm glad that at least ONE Texas station still plays adult standards music. And the midday and afternoon jocks sound pretty good, too.

The .7 is meaningless -- KAAM is a niche buy for its advertisers and I hear quite a few spots during the day.

As for the Saturday night DJ, I agree with Paul Walker Jr: we ALL sounded bad on the air at one time or another...why not just give that guy a break instead of insulting him.

Just my .02-cents.

Mr. WCFLWLS,

You may be correct, the "Clown" as you call him may suck but to claim the "Millionaires" are on air for their ego is a little overboard. MCCoy loves what he does and does it well. Jack in the Middays is a great talent as well as Chuck Brinkman. I'd say that's a darn good line-up.

As i've said on here before, Hugh Beavers is the best damn engineer i've ever worked with and i've worked with the best .

In response to the latest responses.....I have never worked for KAAM in any incarnation and I have never worked for Crawford Broadcasting in any capacity. I stand by everything I have previously stated despite the comments by Catfish Jim Prewitt, a parttimer at KLUV.

There are at least two Adult Standards stations in Texas. Try www.kzqx.com It's in the Kilgore-Longview area. And yes, this is a shameless plug.

Ooops...sorry Chuck...thank you for making KZQX happen. Can't get it in my car because of where I live, but I do listen on the web from time to time...outstanding station!

So you have copies of Mccoy and Beavers 1040's? I mean, if you're standing buy everything you say, and you say they're millionaires, I'm sure you have evidence for that, and aren't just talking out your a**, right?

If you check the FCC records of the sale of KAAM 620 A. M. which was a frequency that was moved from Wichita Falls to Plano, you will see that Jaan Kalmes (not exactly sure of the spelling), Jaan Mccoy's real name and Hue Beavers were among the stock holders. The station was sold to Disney for $12,000,000 and in relation to the amount of stock that each of them owned, both John Kalmes alias Jaan Mccoy and Hue Beavers pocketed about $2,000,000 a piece for a station that when they bought it from the owner in Wichita Falls, they paid less than $500,000 for it.

I think i know who WCFLWLS is now. His comments and writing style are the same as his other aliases. But i won't engage him anymore as he is a LOSER and a waste of time.

You know what I hate the most ?? People like WCFLWLS, burning down people if it's their main goal in life. It's so easy, if you dont like what you hear, grab the knob and turn it off. Pretty easy huh !

But it looks like WCFLWLS is pissed off he didnt get the timeslot or something. You know what WCFLWLS, Im giving you the benefit of the doubt, IF you provide us an aircheck of yourself, so we can all hear that youre are the better jock. Sounds like fun huh. Or are we getting cold feet already ??

In other words, dont burn down people. Again, if you dont like it, dont listen !!

Just my personal and humble opinion....

Could it be the guy on saturday night actually has his first gig? Could it be he had been in the business many years ago and was wanting to get back in? Who knows, but the bottom line is you're listening aren't you? Therefore he has an audience, and is getting some attention. Isn't that what a show is suppose to do? KAAM does a fine job for what they set out to do.

If this is the guys first gig, I want to wish him congratulations and welcome him to the world of radio.. if hes getting back into the business after years of being gone, welcome back

Al does a pretty good job and I think he will only get better. I've listened to the show quite a few times over the years. The show started out a few years ago with the legendary Hubcap Carter. "Willie B" was the sidekick then. After Hubcap passed away a couple of years ago, Willie took the helm, and later came Al as sidekick. Don't know where Willie went. They used to simulcast to Albany N.Y. don't know if they do or not anymore. It is different playlist than most stations will play. I've heard songs there I haven't heard in years (and years and years.....)

Can someone aircheck thius show for me and mail a casette or CD to me?

In other words you ARE just talking out your ass. You have your suspicions, (that may very well be right) but no proof, right? Any idea what it cost them to move the signal? Any idea what they made (or more likely LOST) before they sold it to disney? I know it was a money loser when it was owned by Bonneville. (they just wanted the FM signal's subcarrier for their religious stuff)...Wouldn't be suprised if they lost money on it too...

:)
Stevezodiac,
When you predicted back then July 2006, that Al would get better, you where right.....
He pulled the show up by the boot straps, and brought about an awesome" Sat. Night Sock Hot', and he had a " Great" show that people looked forward to listening to, on Sat. nights...... And we got to hear music that we rarely heard any where else......and he was very entertaining.....and knew how to hold his listeners attention, in awe, toward the end of his show.
Al ,worked hard and brought about a success of a show, that he acquired after , " Hub Cap"Carter and " Willie B"..... And ya know what? He did a wonderful job......
He no longer and his, " Sat. Night Sock Hop" are at Kaam, But there are many who wish he was.....there is a void, that no one else can fill on Sat. nights.....or replace on Kaam......
And Al Taylor, will always be there in memory to many , many of his listeners....
That is why it is hard for his listeners to listen to McCoy and his Rock and Roll program on Sat. night. He can't take Al's place or his show's place...... we won't listen on Sat. night.....it will never be the same without him or his radio show style......
Something about Al, he was genuine and he loved radio, and his listeners.......and knocked himself out trying to give his listeners what he believed what they wanted to hear.
We hope someday we will hear him on the air again, he is very much missed,
We want to Thank you, for the years you gave of your self to us.....We appreciated you for always being there.

I'd rather hear someone who is actually speaking into the microphone right now, instead of a VT where every little flaw is edited out down to the nanosecond. It is like today's music that is way too processed with studio tricks. Edited to perfection but has no soul.

I guess that is the only they can get Britney Spears (or the endless clones) to actually stay on key. But I digress...

Does anybody still listen to this station? It sounds horrible in analog and the HD doesn't lock less than ten miles from the tower.

The problem with KAAM (Apart from the Colon Cleanser Commercials) is that it is still playing music over sixty years old! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE THE MUSIC! I even have Dorsey and Sinatra on my iPod as well. The dances are nice but the audience is aging so badly that its harder to get them out (AND PAY!) to attend!

The baby boomers are now moving into this space and I think Brinkman is in that trend. Of course they're retired and they like to travel so the agencies bill alot on KAAM.

However, so do the BB's now.

They're in better health and I've also noticed that Eagle Travel and others are now showing up on Platinum! That's sure to put a dent in KAAM's billing.

And although they are only 250 Watts by day (And SIX WATTS BY NIGHT!) there's the Mohnkern family out in Terrell with KPYK-AM as well.

But then what do you expect? This is the same station that Killed Johnny Drake and Air Britannia! Not only was the show good but he was smoking the phones with requests and bringing in a younger audience that NEVER EVEN HEARD OF KAAM! Not to mention alot of new women listeners! ;D

Godspeed Al. May the radio ether be kind!

-BGH

Not to mention KJIM 1500. It has a really good signal in Collin County.
