The Cowhead Show on 98 Rock

I may be out of line here because I don't live in Tampa Bay anymore, but in hearing Cowhead on at 98 Rock (on a stream fed by a local ham operator) ..it sounds like a potential winner. He has the chops for it, and Matt (although I hadn't heard much from him before) will evolve and the two will become topical and accepted as were the others before them on 98,and to some extent YNF. It is a new age in Tampa Bay radio and the demographis is what is it..playing to it won't hurt at all, and the bottom line will soon reflect that.

I have a large amount of respect for Cowhead, not only for his unique talent, but his tenacity. It was a good move, and time will prove it.

...And the award for Clear Channel Tampa's Most Scorned Ex-Employee goes to...

..(the envelope please).....riiipppp.....

....******.....

Seriously, dude, go back and listen to some of the tapes of the show. It was HORRIBLE. It replaced the snooze bar on my alarm clock! Phatty was the HIGHLIGHT of the show and he wasn't even the featured player!

At this point in the game, don't you have better things to do? Like concentrate on your current job and TRY not to have a repeat?

Just a simple low level radio employee...who "knows nothing"....

Interesting that this poster would ask what "a Cowhead" is (as if he didn't already know) and then act as if he doesn't care -- the words "oxymoron" and "childish" come to mind.

But this post is actually quite indicative of the level of discourse on this board lately and that's a shame. Taking anonymous potshots at people on the radio is pretty pathetic. At least be a little constructive in the criticisms.

I think Cowhead and Phatty and Amy are doing just fine. I'm not the type of person that listens to the same show every day -- but when the mood strikes me I'll be tuning in because it seems pretty entertaining.

I'm not trying to be nasty, I REALLY dont know who they are.

Well, Altsped (If that is your real name) By now, we hope that you have been brought up to speed here. In case you haven't figured it out by now, Cowhead is the new morning guy on WXTB, 98Rock in Tampa, FL. He has returned to the station where he first started growing his audience in the Bay area after having worked for Infinity (Yes, that's right, Infinity. Don't any of you nitpickers give me any crap, because they weren't yet CBS Radio when he was there.) building his audience as a host of the "replacements" show on WBZZ (Now WQYK-AM)1010, then later as co-host of the increasingly popular "Cowhead and Brent Show" on WYUU Outlaw 92.5 before the format flipped to one where he didn't speak the language, or they would have most likely held onto him. He got the nickname "Cowhead" because of his large cranium, and although he hated it at first, he came to embrace it as his trademark of sorts.

Now that you know "What the hell" a Cowhead is, here's the "who cares" part...
Just take a look at how many people have posted on this board in regard to Cowhead joining 98Rock. Whether you like him or not, you have got to take notice of who he is in Tampa radio.

Also, if you really want the story from the man himself, he does occasionally post on this board. He is one of those who don't have to hide behind a pseudonym while asking questions like "What the hell is a "cowhead" and who cares?". He is known in the industry by the name "Cowhead", and that's the name he uses here. For those of us whose parents cared enough to instill some manners into our upbringing, anonymity isn't necessary. You can tell the real professionals by the fact that their names are out their to stand by their posts, whether they teach, seek guidance or offer an opinion that you might just find offensive, you have to respect someone who stands by his words. When you see usernames like jefflaurence or Bholmes, you can see the added level of professionalism that comes from standing by your word. It's like signing your work.

Sure, I may use different names on different stations, but with the exception of when competing stations want me to use different names, I use my real name when allowed to do so. That's part of the business. As for this board, my real name is just a click away. Just check out my profile if you are curious.

The question remains, "What the Hell is an Altsped, and who cares?".

Now, I feel that it's time to step off of my soapbox, and politely thank you for your time.

Thank you.

Right on.
