The DTV transition, some "it's almost time" observations...

WVIT channel 30 went off exactly at noon.

WTXX Channel 20 went off at Noon

WTIC Channel 61 went off at about 12:01.

Not one of these stations did anything like WFSB did, instead they just went to snow.

I am still picking up a few analog stations, 3 of them spanish speaking and one of them a RTN station. I wonder how long these channels are going to stick around.

Not according to the CT Broadcaster's Association.
POOF Gone at Noon.

BTW excited to hear your going RTN (which is changing its name to RTV) I just hope I can continue to get your signal at my house in Newington after you move your antenna to the ESB in NY. (I doubt it though, I can't get anything from NY)

I had only one TV to monitor this so I got times fairly close and I didn't check 24 or 53 until most went off.

these are not exact, as it takes me a seccond or two to change channels, but I did have my computer clock up as it happened:

59 at about 11:57:45
20 at about 11:59:30
08 at about 11:59:45
30 at about 11:59:50
about 12:01 61 seemed like they weren't going anywhere so I checked 24 & 53 and found them both gone
then right after I checked 61 and they were gone

That's all of them, nobody's left, only analog signals I have right now are the LPTV's 38, 48 & 50

A further note, looks like thought they had a little more time at Dish Network, both 20 & 61 are out.

Which 3 spanish? I'm only getting 38 & 50 (I sometimes get 51 in Springfield, but not right now)

Also of note: WTXX Digital 12 seems to be out, but nothing on 20 yet (here I was shooting for WCVB in the downtime, yes, I know, unrealistic)

You are correct its only 2 spanish stations. The dial on these old TV's are funny.

Been watching WRNT-48 which is airing RTV (RTN's new name) and it looks like they need their dish picking up RTV needs some tweeking. At home I have no problem getting the RTN East and West feeds on a 1.2 meter Dish. WRNT is having a lot of breakup.

Channel 20 is still down on DirecTV

Message says...

"DIGITAL TRANSITION IN PROGRESS

THERE IS NOTHING YOU NEED TO DO...
We are fine-tuning some local channels to make sure DIRECTV delivers the best digital TV experience.

Thank you for your patience!

WTXX is also down on Dish Network, just a black screen there.

I recorded about four minutes of WVIT-TV. The weather guy mentioned that they had an TV set up in the corner with analog channel 30 on it. It would've been nice if they had got a shot of that. It went off the second The Bonnie Hunt Show started. A picture came back a few seconds later and then *POOF!* for good.

I checked the rest of the analog side once I finished the recording. Only WFSB-TV analog channel 3 remains.

On the digital end of the tuner (I'm in New Britain's south end):

WEDY-DT (PBS) channel 6 of New Haven has nothing whatsoever.
WEDN-DT (PBS) channel 9 of Norwich is there, but not enough to lock.
WTNH-DT (ABC) channel 10 of New Haven is giving me problems. I haven't moved my antenna, yet I'm either getting a blank screen or one huge video mess.
WTXX-DT (CW) channel 20 of Waterbury is fantastic! The signal is just as strong as it was on channel 12. I just happen to be watching when channel 12 went dead. A minute later, I saw the carrier on digital 20 come on. Call letters, picture and programming information popped up a few minutes later.
WHPX-DT (ION) channel 26 of New London had no change.
WTIC-DT (FOX) channel 31 of Hartford had no change.
WFSB-DT (CBS) channel 33 of Hartford had no change.
WVIT-DT (NBC) channel 35 of New Britain had no change.
WCTX-DT (MY) channel 39 of New Haven had no change, unlike WTNH-DT.
WEDH-DT (PBS) channel 45 of Hartford had no change.
WUVN-DT (UNI) channel 46 of Hartford had no change.

WBZ went off at 12:30 with nightlight programming.
WSBK went off completely at 1:00.

And both did it with absolutely no fanfare at all. Good job WFSB in Hartford! WBZ and WSBK, you both failed miserably.

WFSB was the only one that did a proper sign off (though technically, they are still on the air), some the other were mentioning it in the local newscasts just as the switch was about to be thrown, but nothing official was done for the final closedown.

Dish network did have a test pattern with "WTXX STAND BY" on 20, but they are black screen now, they do have WTIC 61 up though.

Subscribers to COX Communications in greater Hartford will see WFSB move from analog cable 2 to analog cable 3. I'll assume he means the viewers in Newington, Wethersfield, Rocky Hill, Glastonbury and Manchester.

Hm. There's a technical reason it was on a different cable channel, right?

Yep, potential RF ghosting inteference. Not really an issue these days though.

Thought so. Thanks.

I wonder if Comcast here [Londonderry, NH] will move WMUR from channel 8 to channel 9 after tonight.

So by my count, Boston officially has one UHF remaining, WLVI-TV.
(First generation Comark IOX transmitter!)

I see no sign of WUNI-TV 27 here in EP, but I get a faint shot of WUTF 66.

Is WDPX on the Cape still on?

I believe 27's been off for at least a month. Maybe they're modifying the 27 transmitter for use as WUTF-DT?

WDPX-58 went off the same day as 68 I think.

It's 12:40, and the Boston stations have all converted. At 11:59PM, Chs. 2, and 5 are in nightlight mode (after a commercial break on Nightline, ch. 5 cout off to reporter Susan Wornick, who spoke about the transition and the nightlight more which is now on), ch. 56 went off, and ch. 7 went off during a commercial break of the Tonight show. I did a rescan of my converter boxes, and RF 27 went to ch. 66. I also notice after the transition ch. 48, the Daystar affiliate, has a much stronger signal. However, I can no longer get ch. 7 (which was at RF42), even when I added the RF 7 frequency. Anyone else not getting channel 7 after midnight? I'll try again in the morning.
