The Edge was re-branded X103.9?

For the love of Radio said:
it seems like they are trying hard to get away from the EDGE name, when you re-brand FM/1039 just sounds like the dial position so people still called them the Edge. just and opinion

Isn't the Edge name still a trademark of Jacobs Media? If you're trying to save money, rebranding to FM1039 and now X1039 will save you from writing them a check.

But if they're going in a Gen-X direction, then they're moving away from Active Rock and searching for an older demo.

You nailed it on the head. The RBG trustee is trying to run things as cheaply as possible until they can find a buyer for the stations, who will most likely flip them. When they were "FM 103.9," they were still using the moniker "Edge Radio."

The RBG trustee is trying to get larger ratings so it can be profitable.

I just wish they'd go big or go home. To me the banshees, ramones, and X sound a little odd mixed in with papa roach and all the new emo crap they air. And the Pixies are still MIA in their rotation, weird.

They play X, the punk rock band from Los Angeles that was discovered by Ray Manzarek? Wow, I didn't even know X got airplay! :)

They don't. It's still heavy-rotation on nostalgia like Sublime and Blind Melon, as opposed to 'better' nostalgia like X, Germs, DK's, etc. The only place to hear X (either LA's X or the X from Australia) on local AM/FM, if you're lucky, is KUPD's Lopsided World of L on a good day. That guy makes KROQ's Rodney look like Ryan Seacrest by comparison.

They've played X (Exene Cervenka flavor) for years. Yes, it's pretty much all been within the confines of the various Ska-Punk slots, but airplay's airplay.

Ive heard X a few times over the past few months on that station during middays, not just the (sorry excuse for a ) ska - punk show. Now if we can get Ms Nash to quit calling dropkick a "seltic" band and inform her joy division, not the killers, wrote shadowplay, i might be able to listen w/o wanting to throw things.

They have picked up some better 90's alternative and some decent classic rock (I heard Bowie the other day, unfortunately followed by bush or something equally lame). . . .
