hey im new here :) does the edge 103.9 have a website? cant seem to find it anywhere ???

And what a fascinating thread of information this is, too. WOW!

And does anybody know what KFYI's web address is? I can't find it anywhere.

Could it be www.kfyi.com ?

WOW!

With the latest numbers you wouldn't think so. How far the mighty have fallen very sad. Riviera had to fix what wasn't broken. I still like them but not nearly as much when young marc was pd

I swear I typed in the right address maybe the website was down that night..Riviera should put KKFR on both 983 and 1039, otherwise it will never compete with the KZON stick. :-X

Rock formats are down across the board. KUPD took a big hit in the fall - I don't know if this could have been because they were running on 75 percent power and battling technical problems (which have been fixed with the installation of a new transmitter late last month), or is the younger generation moving away from radio faster than the industry has figured. Modern Rock (Alternative) has been struggling across the country for much of this decade, and even heritage stations are going away (99X in Atlanta for example). Just to think, this month is the 15th Anniversary of The Edge (when you count all of its incarnations at 106.3, 106.3/100.3, and 103.9).

Wait for People Meter - rock stations have begun to mount a small comeback in markets where ppm is already in use... I find that to be good news!

Edge 103.9 They used to sound cool, but nowaday's I just don't understand there music, I Hate the whole "SKA" sound its annoying.
and I guess if they want to be even more annoying they should simulcast 98.3 because thats all phoenix needs is another gutter trash rap station.
why are these stations popular? well let me tell you why!
Have you ever watched daytime Talk shows and seen the trailer trash that appears on those shows.
Well, that is becoming the majority of the population in America.
So what kind of radio do you think these people are going to want to hear.
you guessed it "Radio stations like 98.3 and 101.5 and 103.9 and 104.7 and 97.9 all aiming at the lowest common denominator.
MUSIC is supposed to be uplifting to the soul.
My current choice stations are but not in this order.

KNRJ 92.7 & 101.1 Because trance techno and high energy dance music just feels happy, how could you be depressed and sad after listening to this music.

MIX 96.9 FM Because they play Rock and popular music thats enjoyable, not songs that scream in your ear or preach the language and culture of drugs, prostitutes and criminal activity, like some other stations.

KCDX 103.1 FM when I want some good old album oriented Rock-n-roll and want to be suprised, because you never know what the hell your gonna hear on 103.1 ) and there's no annoying egotistical dj's babbling on and on about there mundane trivial lives.

92.9 FM The Mountain {Tucson} this is what I listen to when my job takes me down to the ole pueblo, we desperately need a station like this in phoenix.
just wish they would not jump on the play the same song again and again band wagon like they appear to be doing in the mornings lately.

KBAQ 89.5 FM when I want music with NO LYRICS, something relaxing that I can Daydream too "I drive a Semi-Truck for a living" don't ya just luv the fact that I might be KBAQ'ing behind you barreling down the highway in La-La Land )

P.s. To The people at ENERGY 92.7 AND 101.1 YES you actually do have listeners. more than you can imagine.
I was driving down Grand avenue one day and heard it YES I heard ENERGY blaring from a Pick-up truck with some burly lookin hairy dude just a jammin away and I was like WOW! guess you can't stereotype the listeners of energy )
not all of us have "Rainbow stickers on our cars or trucks )
Also Energy turned me on to a really cool metaphysical shop in glendale and I have been frequenting the place as a customer.
So advertiseing on ENERGY really does help sell your business, just to a niche audience.
and that shop had all the cool stuff I needed pertaining to "The Old religion")

Well thats your opinion, I personally listen to all the stations you dislike as well as a few you do like and I don't consider myself the lowest common denomonator by any means.

AZfmfan: So tell me what is it about the music on 98.3 that you enjoy?

When your listening to that style of music, How does it make you feel good?

I have given those stations a listen and I hear in the lyrics a lot of Egotism and Im better than you and your lower than me attitude.
alway's singing about Fighting and scoring drugs and life on the streets selling drugs, or how many women I have "Boinked" and who knows who and all that crap.

Seriously sit down and listen to the lyrics.

Honestly I know 100% of the music does not sing about those subjects and there has been a FEW and let me state that clearly VERY FEW rap songs that I actually enjoyed.

But honestly probably 85 to 90% of the music is just attitude.

So how do you find enjoyment in that?

and the So-Called Comedy, its your usual gutter toilet humour are you not above that type of mentality?

Look around you, you don't see many places of business playing 98.3 or 101.5 in there respected places of business.
you want to know why? because it's offensive.
Business people and people of intelligence don't appear to be listeners of those stations.
the only people you seem to hear listening to this stuff is the young Not-Mature yet kids.
and it's usually the I want to be a gang member type!

Look how it's affecting the styles, you go to the mall and the clothes are just utter shit.
everythings HIP-HOP Bling Bling crap.
nothing I would ever consider buying.

and it's a shame that our civilization or should I say Lack of civilization is buying into this crap.

We can do so much better!

But maybe the powers that be want us to act and look like this.
keep us fighting and drugged up, so we don't see the real enemy and fight back and take our world back!

Hmmmmm Makes ya wonder

Dude, you make no sense. You're just babblin' about how much better you are than everyone else because you don't listen to these stations. Just as you say that we'd be surprised with the type of listeners Energy has, same goes for the other stations you're bad mouthin'. Just shut your piehole already.

Thank-you radiopirahna, my point exactly. AZooten, I do not look or act like a gangster or even fit the mold of a person that listens to power or jamz, but it doesn't mean I cant enjoy the music from time to time. I don't care about the words as much as the beat and the overall sound of the song. I never said these were the only stations I listen to either. You also mentioned KUPD and the Edge in the same manner, I listen to Holmberg every morning and I love his show. Yes its juvenile humor but the guys actually sound like they are having fun and the show doesn't sound scripted. I also listen to the edge on occasion, you gonna bash me for that too. I respect your opinion, I am not baggin on you for listening to Energy, but in your original post you didn't sound like you had respect for anyone that listens to the five stations you mentioned as appealing to the lowest common denominator.

radiopirahna: I never once said I was better than anyone, and if you think Im babbling on and on, then you don't see conversation as anything relevant.
I was just asking WHY! anyone would be interested in or made to feel good by that style of music.
it was a question and FMFan answered it.
he enjoys the music because of the beat and rhythm.
and there's nothing wrong with the music, its some of the lyrics and what there singing about that I don't understand.
as in how does it make one feel good to hear about such subjects?

I would just hate to see a world where the majority of the music was depressing and about negative subjects.
radiopirahna say's for me to "Shut My Piehole" well right there shows negativity, so I can't voice my opinion, last I checked this was a free country.
and everyones opinion is equally relevant.
See this negativity that is being thrust upon the world by the media is breeding hate and anger and everyone just wants a fight.
thats like the poster Dr.Akbar it appears to me, but may not be his intention to always be focusing on other stations bad faults.
like when one certain station stays at full power past there bedtime :)
Well instead of nit picking why don't we call that station and ask whats up?
why does everyone alway's want to fight?

as for radio in phoenix, let's make it better not worse.
bring more diversity into the mix, there is room for rap music, if people "Want to hear that" but there's also room for so much more.
let's not cater to the lowest common denominator and let's stop following trends that are set for us by corporate media.
because you know in your heart, that if mainstream media shunned rap music and fashion looked away from the Hip-Hop culture then people would not want it.
People are Sheep, they follow they never appear to lead.

Hmmmmm Makes ya wonder

AZOOTEN....When your 100% Right...your right......Especially about them wanting us to Fight and Be Drugged up so are Deffenses are down as not only for the African American Culture...but for most of society.....this is why The Record Companies and Radio Kings...IE CC, CBS, keep playing these Horrible Rap Songs.......Hip Hop has been Ruined By the THUG..GANGSTER..KILLER Image of Killing and Dressing like a Damn Fool....wearing your pants Past your Ass.....

Back in the 80s...when LL. COOL J, Will Smith, DOUG E. FRESH, & KRS-ONE...just to name a few would actually Send a POSITIVE Message in their Lyrics..!!
these songs are in the Graveyard now, and they don't play what was QAULITY RAP (HIP HOP CULTURE) Back in the Day.

Stations today like KKFR, KQKS, KZON, KXHT, & KBXX..all play the Negative Lyrics of today ...they are mostly Hardcore URBAN STATIONS NOW. I would listen only to stations like KAJM & KNRJ and KJZZ(REAL JAZZ...Not the SMooth Crap) Music is truly the Silent Killer of us all today :-[ :-[

YES! Finally somebody that understands! :)

Rap music can be used for a positive message instead of a negative one.

and not only rap music but all music.

The only time I ever heard a song in rap music, that pushed "Killing" that was positive was a song that said "Kill your television" I for got who did that one, it went something like "Television drug of the nation breeding ignorance and feeding radiation"

and then there were the songs that were about "Fighting the powers that be" not fighting each other.
Songs that cried out for change and to make a better world.

That was Disposable Heroes of Hiphopracy, Michael Franti's project after Beatnigs and before Spearhead. He was always on the leading edge of socially conscious rap.

*sigh* I'd love to hear PE on the radio. But they just never subscribed to the "life ain't nothin' but b!tches and money" ethic.

Geeze can't we all just get along? ;D Why wouldn't Riviera want to beat KZON? Power is a lot more hip-hop than all the wanna be's or has beens at 1015. Why not actually give KKFR a chance to be the station it was when emmis had them? ???
