This year's Coca Cola 600 marks the end of Fox's leg of NASCAR coverage for the 2010 season, before handing it off to TNT, and later, ABC/ESPN.
However, Fox's on-air crew is making it sound as if it could be Fox's last NASCAR telecast for awhile. Darrell Waltrip sounded quite despondent in his postgame comments:
"I've been so proud to be a part of Fox Sports this year... I think we've done a great job, and I hope the fans -- we're gonna miss you, and I hope you miss us."
Larry McReynolds later added, "You know what, guys? I hope we're here for ten more years."
Not only did they point out that it was Fox's tenth season of carrying NASCAR races, there was even a little vignette that aired as a rejoiner that included stills of the entire Fox pit crew (Berggren, Voda et al.) and noting that the team has been together for a long time, or something along those lines...
At the end of the broadcast, Chris Myers - who parroted the fact that Fox has carried NASCAR for ten seasons - did point out that they would come back next year with the Daytona 500. Plus, I believe that there's still a few years left from an eight-year contract that still need to be honored by all the networks involved, including Fox. But why give viewers the wrong impression?
