The Further Decline of KIRO-FM

Sad. Sad. Sad.

It wasn't that long ago they were utilizing two aircraft for traffic, including a helicopter.

Of course, if this means we don't have to listen to the insipid Kimmie Kline any more, all the better.

I thought KIRO ended the planes and choppers long ago and used Total Traffic/Metro or whatever it's called with a chopper sounder and a 2-way radio mike effect.

Could've sworn one morning I once heard Adam Gerkhe in the chopper on KIRO and about two minutes later, hearing him doing a relaxed sounding traffic read on KPLU....And a few minutes later, he's on KCPQ without a sweat. And back again. In 30 minutes.

Now either this is simple and explainable or I'm e-mailing George Noory........

Word's out that KIRO-FM has now grounded its traffic plane in a cost-cutting move as ratings continue to slide.

If this is true, it's a real bad move.

KIRO FM has been using the airplane for traffic reports as it was much cheaper than a helicopter. Last I knew they had "team traffic" in drive times though, allowing for some in the air and some on the ground reporting.

KIRO was using traffic.com (now called Radiate Media) but may also have been bartering with Total Traffic (formerly Metro) for off hours and personnel.

I'm not enjoying Ross and Curley at 9am. What a mismatch. If Curley was such a poor idea for mornings a few months ago, why bring him back now? Ross has class and intelligence; Curley seems to only talk about himself and how his true conservative views don't match with anything his co-hosts have to say. Same when I heard him in the early evening paired up with Andrew W.

Well, then get him off the air! This ain't Lubbock, folks. There are a half dozen other places for "true believers" to get their talking points on the Seattle dial. We don't need your Dory Monsoons and other far-suburban carpers hijacking every conversation on Seattle's only local talk station. OK KIRO-FM management??

I think John Curley makes the station much more bearable. Again, that's just my opinion though. I think Dave Ross is kind of a "know it all". I am glad KVI 570 is back to talk, I enjoy their programming a lot more then I enjoy the programming on KIRO.

Curley is back on in the morning? They have to use him somewhere considering how much they area paying him. They can't afford to pay him to stay home.

KIRO got rid of the traffic plane, but we still have to suffer through Kimmie Kline's traffic reports. I can't believe this market can't do better than this in drive time.

Not accurate. Station has no traffic relationship with Radiate.
