The Groove

Does anyone know why The Groove channel from XM is not on Sirius? This channel should be on Sirius too.

I second that, and I have talked to Sirius about it, and they claim no one has asked for it. Thus, Sirius ignores late 70s, 80s and into the 90s classic R&B/funk programming- a slap in the face to the demos that like this music, and especially the ethnic audience it plays strongly to. Soul Town covers 50s thru mid 70s, Heart & Soul plays today's R&B and goes back into the 90s some, but you wont hear much Gap Band, Cameo, Dazz, Brick, and others on Sirius any longer. A shame. Please contact them ask ask why not? [email protected]

Another cost cutting move from sirius.

Not quite... it's the same company. It doesn't cost any more to put the programming on both services. Bandwidth? Maybe. Or maybe they're trying to shift certain music demographics towards one service or the other?

I too have called Sirius & have requested that the Groove be carried there also. Could it be that their reinvestment in the Strobe channel is making it the more popular choice of the two & therefore not enough subscribers are making this request?

Never thought of that.

It's more a bandwidth issue. Sirius broadcasts using a rather dated and inefficient audio codec. On top of that they can't shuffle their bandwidth around like XM can. Sirius also uses a chunk of their bandwidth to broadcast video to their backseat TV service.

A bandwidth issue does make the most sense.

.....well, come to think of it Sirius did remove the pop2k/boombox and cinemagic channels in order to get us back the strobe and backspin. Wonder what channel would go next so that we could get the groove channel?

Can they get sirius in Korea? ;D

......well, now at last and least it's on sirius internet radio for its subscribers.....something to go with the strobe in the home, but not on the road....maybe a step in the right direction that's off to a good start....it would be even better to hear it on sirius satellite bandwidth while commuting, though..
