The Hawk's new frequency .. 104.9FM

Yes Northern Mass Oop's. And all of 104.9's interference is caused by North Shore 104.9. Once you head into Concord North Shore and Frank FM battle it out.

LKZ's Signal has always been poor south and west. They do well North and east and I think it is due to the tower location on Gunstock Mountain. Also LKZ is licensed to Wolfeboro, but that's a joke as they rarely have anything to do with the east side of the lake's region. You can thank J. Williams for screwing eastern NH out of a good radio station.

They never had the impact on the Lakes Region that they should have. They were briefly partnered with Al Severy's Radio Wolfeboro(WASR). Mr. Williams didn't play well with others.

A recent effort as Rockin Oldies, prior to Nassau's take over, tried hard with the ever energetic and very community involved Pat Kelly as PD and Morning Guy.

I grew up and lived in the lakes for 30 years. 104.9 has a much better signal than 101.5. They do have a good signal west. They are clear as a bell in Franklin where 101.5 is unlistenable. The height on 104.9 gives them the advantage. To the south and east their signal blows do to the mountains.

I always thought 101.5 had a better signal overall since on a good car radio you can get it in Northern Mass. I could even pick it up in Old Orchard Beach, Maine with a good signal on my car radio. 104.9 was non-existent in Maine and in Mass theres North Shore 104.9.

101.5 does have areas where their signal is weak.

Wonder if the new owner will do the power increase? That could be interesting.

There was no possibility when 101.7 Newport,NH was on the air. Shapiro removed t5hat onstacle himself.

I guess now it could beactually considered. Ironically.

When I'm back up there, I notice that the 104.9 signal still better to the south than most LR stations. LNH is the strongest with 94.1 being close behind. Heck 94.1 is really stong south. I pick it up that the border some times. 101.5 got better when it moved it to the LNH tower but it's weak. 93.3 is in Tilton and does nicely to the south. I would say that 101.5 is weaker to the south than 104.9. 104.9 has trouble with the old W-Bach out of Gloster I think and 101.5 has trouble with several around it.

WNHW is actually off Ski Hill Rd (a bike park is in that area) in Northfield... but yes... 93.3 does well to the south despite it's low power-- the 1,000+ feet sure help.

The Hawk is now running commercial saying the The Hawk is flying north to 104.9 on November 4th. I feel bad that such a great station is getting there signal downgraded from 6,000 watts to 500 watts. The new 104.9 signal barely makes it to Concord while the 101.5 signal can be heard in Southern Massachusetts on a good radio.

Do you mean Northern Mass?

I wonder how much of WLKZ's poorer signal south of the LR has to do with co-channel interference from North Shore 104.9 in Beverly/Gloucester? WWHQ's nearest co-channel is much further away I think.

No downgrade at all. Both stations are 6,000 watts. Actually, 104.9 has an advantage in the area with its height. I can get 104.9 clearer in many places than I can 25,000 watt WLNH. The higher the height, the better in the lakes region. The terrain is hilly to mountainous. Remember, 6,000 watts at 328 feet is 6,000 watts. 570 watts at 1,056 feet is still 6,000 watts. If 104.9 put out 6,000 watts at that height, they'd almost be equivalent to 50,000 watts! 93.3 is actually only 3,000 watts equivalent with 300 watts at 1,020 feet. That is all they can be with all the short spacing(93.5 in Conway, 93.1 in Portland). I always thought it would be awesome for 94.1 to put their stick up on the same hill as 93.3. 94.1 could put out 600 watts and would boom into Concord and even have a good signal in Manchester.

Would it be possible for WFTN to do that?

It wouldn't be that far of a move geographically-- but with the increased height, would that cause interference with WMXR and CYY?

Not to mention the 94.1 translator in Manchester, W231BR.

I think that's the real stopper here, Mix 94.1 and the old ZID translator (now relaying WZID-HD2) are already pretty close.

WCYY? The Providence, Rhode Island station with a strong unprotected fringe signal in Northern Mass? they wouldn't be a stopper in this situation.
