The history behind Russ Martin

I still enjoy Jagger and Crew and when I've heard him, I've enjoyed Big Dick (that didn't come out right did it?)

Namely after talking about Jagger? :-\

Personally, The Jagger Show is the only thing fresh and funny to me. The rest blows.

OK, since you asked... doesn't this line up scream to management, "BLOW ME UP DAWG!" We all know what the DFW area thinks of P&K and RMS. Nuff said. Leykis is just stale and is about two inches outside of a tracheotomy. Jagger was OK at best on KDGE. He sucked on that dating show and carries that same "Tony Zazza except with brains" schtick on-air. Richard was all porn, all the time on KTCK but now the WAC has become a thing of its own. Maybe syndication isn't working on mornings for the mighty KLLI. What about Richard there? Oh, and need we forget about David Lee Roth's experiment?

Does KLLI have weekend programming? ;D

Yup, Mortgage Talk, Plastic Surgery Talk, Scooter Talk and my favorite oxymoron the best of P&K.

I flipped on Russ this afternoon and it was the same old crap. He was giving Gavin a lie detector test, talking to Mike Reno of Loverboy, talking about how bad his farts smell, spitting tobacco on Gavin's desk and playing a prank on Gavin. I'm with everyone else on here that says he is just awful now.

Jagger - The saving grace of this station. I love every one of their personalities and Jagger understands what the general audience wants most of the time and keeps the show moving.

Pugs & Kelly - I remain loyal to them and listen to them after Jagger. They aren't as good as they once were, but every show have their ups and downs. I like how they are not afraid to talk about their personal lives and problems. I miss Sybil and according to her Myspace page, she resigned from the station because she was reduced to just answering phone calls and was busy with her other projects. Good luck to her. I only wish that they ease up on having Eric on the air. He reminds me of the nerd in class who trys to be funny.

Russ Martin - I agree with what everyone else said on this page. I used to love him. The show really has been reduced into nothing but a jock and his flunkies not letting anyone in on their own jokes. Its a bore and I miss Dean Lewis.

Leykis - He's interesting when he's not talking about Leykis 101. I listen every nowandthen.

Big Dick Hunter - My least favorite personality. He's either struggling to find sophisticated words to say, or he goes out of the way to make his jokes. He's like a dreadfully unfunny Dennis Miller. I cringe whenever Pugs or Kelly takes off and leaves this guy in one of their places. The worst thing about it? He has the most interesting guests and I cant stand Big Dick long enough to hear the entire interview.

Weekend shows - I find some of the weekend shows to be informative, but I'm rarely around to hear them.

NASCAR - This station can do better than this.

What do you mean? You are too sophisticated for NASCAR, NASCAR doesn't play well on radio? NASCAR would be a better fit on another station, there should be no NASCAR, an infomercial for a industrial colon cleanser that guarantees a five foot *radio edit* is more your speed?

I never have had an opportunity to listen to him until a couple
of weeks ago. I caught about 15 minutes of the show, which
is not truly a good representation, but nevertheless, I thought
"this dude is pretty damn funny", he sounds and GIVES
a grown up delivery (not like a 10 yr old with bathroom jokes),
and he plays on the cerebral. Maybe the last is stretching it, but
you know what I mean compared to Russ.

Haven't caught him in awhile after his throat problems. I enjoyed
Leykis, but I could not stand his delivery. He was like MR RADIO
boss jock trying to do talk radio. I think he loves to hear himself talk.

Guess I'm in the minority. I like NASCAR. It's one of the only sports
I enjoy watching and listening to. Yeah, I know I'm going to hell, but
I'm just not a Cowboys or Rangers fan. I could care less about them.
Now, give me some hockey and car crashes every now and then, and
you've got me hooked. :D

NASCAR is definitely one of the "Big Four", with all due respect to Stars fans. With that marketing power and those adoring fans, they will be passing the N-B-friggin-A soon in ratings. Scratch that... they already do.

And Butterbean, your taste in radio aside :-X, the crack on Large Richard as a dreadfully, unfunny Dennis Miller was spot on! Lovely.

Earlier this week I flipped on the RMS and it was the same old lame thing and then a Russ took a call and the guy on the phone wanted to know if Russ had a laugh track and Russ asked why and he said because you are NOT funny but I still hear laughter... Russ seemed taken aback a bit and came back with "that may be true but I still have a lot of cash". I quickly flipped to the Ticket. What an arrogant b@$#%^&!

Who is the guy on the show that has that high pitched laugh. Not only is his hysterical laughter annoying, it's more annoying because whatever it was Russ said wasn't even remotely funny. I used to think Russ had a laugh button, because nothing he says is funny enought to illicit that hysterical forced laugher from his crew. I love the days i'm out of the office so I can listen to my Sirius.

Has anyone listened to the Tuesday evening show after Russ? Timm Matthews does a warm up show for Brady Tinker and Tony Romo/Sam Hurd.

I just wanted to get the communities thoughts on it.

Thanks

Re:Russ Martin's time has come to go quietly into the night

One day, Martin will wake up without a job. Where can he go after that day? There's no other station where his schtick will fit. Can you imagine him on afternoon drive at KLUV or KRLD? Neither can KLUV or KRLD.

When he's fired, he's through in this market. In another market, it'd take him years to get known. Then, all those who didn't and don't like him can rejoice :-\.

I hate to see the demise of any radio personality. But, Russ Martin's "time" has come and gone. The long periods of silence aren't his problem. It's the lack of content, lack of talent and pure junk that's on the air when there's not silence.

A year from now, the world will little note nor long remember that he was on the air in DFW-land.

Just so I'm clear Radiowise, you can't get a job in radio, but you're going to predict that Russ will be off the air in a year. Especially when CBS just signed him to a huge contract? God you losers are pathetic.

This thread is interesting to me. For some reason I have stopped listening to Russ, probably 9-12 months ago. Not exactly sure when. Partly happens depending on Sports, when i tend to lean more towards the Ticket.

Did not really analyze why, but some points raised here made me think about it.

The Band thing is one. I hate most of the stuff to do with the band. The Russ' world is another. The problem is Russ' whole show is about his life. He leads a very boring and mundane life. He rarely goes out, and rarely does anything. So it is shallow. He is almost completely out of touch with current events and what is going on in the world unless it is on the local news. When they do the news stories he is rarely aware or interested. So he has no shared understanding or experiences with the rest of us. It is all Russ all the time. The problem, as someone mentioned, is when things run boring in his life, it really hurts the show.

I also think they have lost talent over the years that helped fill in those spots. I think some of the things people like Eddie Boyd did have gone missing, with nobody capable of filling in. There is not a capable writer in that studio outside of Russ.

Russ' show is in a time vacuum. I can turn it on today, and I will have a hard time telling if it is a repeat, or a new show. At some point I just stopped tuning in, and I was a daily listener for years.

I still think he is a talented broadcaster, but he is in his comfort zone and amazingly neurotic. He is comfortable and will do little if anything to shake that up. Unfortunately, again, boring radio.

Russ is quick-witted, he needs to expand upon the foundation that is his material. It is narrow, and has not changed in years. He has nothing to work with any longer.
