The Hit Parade Era - Fantasy Programming

Laurie London a true one hit wonder............but, a big one all the way to number one. Another couple of Number 1 .....one hit wonder's.. The Singing Nun with "Dominique" and Joan Weber "let me go Lover"

Dominique is also one of 4 foreign language songs to go to #1

Volare
Dominique
sukiyaki
La Bamba-los lobos
La Bamba was first recorded (R&R - 1958) by Ritchie Valens (Valenzuela), the B-side on Del-Fi 4110. "Donna" was the A-side. I would have referenced Ritchie before Los Lobos. Ahh, but that's just me. ;) :D ;D

GLB you are absolutely right Ritchie the original should go first, this had to do with foreign language songs that went to number 1, unfortunately Ritchies didn't.

A point well made. We agree,

On the "newer" side, but along foreign language lines, there is also "Eres Tu", by Mocedades. I am reasonably certain that "Eres Tu Touch The Wind" went to No. 1.

Yes, somewhere but not on Billboard IIRC. Great song, the flip side of the 45 was the English version in mono.

It went to No. 1 in my heart, and I am going to buy it tomorrow. In fact I may go purchase it now. "Have a Nice Day Volume 12". If it is $5.99 on Amazon, it will be $4.99 at the outlet.

superradiofan is right peaked at #9............but If it went to number in Silkies heart, that's cool too.

Hey, can’t let this great thread die, not just yet.

Let’s look at the year 1957:
Honeycomb – Jimmie Rodgers
Send For Me – Nat King Cole
Rainbow – Russ Hamilton
Tammy – Debbie Reynolds
Shangri-La – The Four Lads
White Silver Sands – Don Rondo
In the Middle of an Island – Tony Bennett
Banana Boat Song (Day-O) – Harry Belafonte
Marianne – Terry Gilkyson and the Easy Riders
Love Letters in the Sand – Pat Boone
Old Cape Cod – Patti Page
Melodie d-Amour – The Ames Brothers (already mentioned)
So Rare – Jimmy Dorsey
Dark Moon – Gale Storm
Kisses Sweeter than Wine – Jimmie Rodgers
Jamaica Farewell – Harry Belafonte
Around the World – Victor Young
Round and Round – Perry Como
April Love – Pat Boone
Butterfly – Andy Williams
Fascination – Jane Morgan
Moonlight Gambler – Frankie Laine
My Heart Reminds Me – Kay Starr

And not to highjack the thread but.....

Anybody know why the hockey fans at the Forum in Montreal sing "Day-o"? I can't think of any song that is more unlike hockey than that one (OK, actually I can but for the sake of this question I won't).

There may be a local secret reason for this,

but,

as an outsider, I'll proffer a guess...

"DAY-O" shouted in unison by the home fans seems to be an intimidating sound to the visitors, similar to the raucous chant of "WE WILL, WE WILL...ROCK YOU" in many home stadia. "DAY-O" is used during AAA baseball games at my home town field - it excites the crowd and gets them into the game.

I tend to agree, much the same way "Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye) is played at some stadia when a homerun is hit.

Doo-wop quiz

How well do you know your doo-wop songs and the nonsense syllables?

For entertainment value, here are some actual nonsense phrases from well known doo-wop recordings. Can you name the tune?

I’ll start with an easy one, then progress to more difficult. Have fun with it and post your answers by number.

1. Dom dom dom dom dom, dom-bi doo-bi dom
2. Dom doo-bi-dom, woe-oh, dooby dooby
3. Radda tadda tadda do-oo-oo
4. Wah wah ooh, chop chop chop chop
5. Yip-yip-yip-yip yip-yip-yip-yip mum-mum-mum-mum mum-mum-mum-mum
6. Deh doom, ba-ba doom, ba-ba doom, ba-ba doe doe
7. Bomp ba-ba bomp, ba bomp ba bomp bomp, ba-ba bomp ba-ba bomp, da dang da-dang dang, da ding-a-dong ding
8. Bom, bom, di-bi-di-bi-di-bah, ri-bi-dah, ri-bi-dah, ri-bi-dah, ri-bi-dah, doo bop shoo bah, bom bom di-bi-di-bi-dip

Oops, wrong thread. Oh well, it's still open for the quiz.

I was never too good with lyrics but....

5 is "Get a Job".

My mind is too far gone for the others. ;D
