THe holiday book is in and,,,,,,,,,,,,

once again B 101 is the clear Christmas winner in both qtr hour and cume,

WOGL barely made a dent..in fact the holiday numbers were less than November,

B owns the Christmas position and hopefully next year OGL will stick with regular programming.

WOGL would have done much better if they went all Christmas 24/7. I had on WOGL and the first time they had the dance party on I went to B101 and stayed there. I am sure I'm not the only one.

That's it, for sure. Had they not run the dance party, the B's lead would have been sliced significantly.

:D

The dance party is a paying gig. So let's drop it to play Santa's Coming to Town? I don't think so!

Did they fare better than their rating the last time WOGL went all-holiday-hits a few years ago, or worse?

As commented on during the season, the reason for WOGL to play Christmas music was primarily to hold onto their regular audience who might have otherwised gone over to B, and WOGL did apparently hold their audience & with overall 4th place. Their 'upper demo' Christmas music selection was not a 'copy' of the more contemporary artist B playlist so it was a good alternative.

WPEN is awfully low, wonder how long it'll go untill it gets it's long-needed format change. Hopefully GM will try an Alternative or CHR format, something that can apply to a younger audience. It seems to tie itself up with BEN, MMR and MGK. AS MGK and MMR both play a lot of classic rock, and BEN plays some stuff on MGK.

Also, WISX looks like it'll stick around, it's ratings are sturdy. WUSL's cume keeps falling. Surprised WOGL had that much audience.

GM might as well pull the plug on The Fanatic. It's not going to beat WIP. GM should try 50s/60s oldies on 97.5 they would do well with that.

WBEB (I haven't listened ever, always preferred WISX or WIOQ) WOGL, WSOX (chester and montgomery get this) and WBEN cover it pretty well, right? I'd really like another Alternative or CHR, just something about Clear Channel stations that gets annoying

They'll more then likely do Jazz again, then fail that and attempt something like Older Country, Soft AC, Soul, Newer Hard Rock, 50s/60s oldies, dance, tropical or some open format. If that fails, expect a CHR or AC.

Forget 50s/60s oldies..the demo is not sellable. As for a Soft AC, forget it. Soft AC is what BEB is today..in 2012.

Could they shift from Sports Talk to Talk on FM...perhaps....

B added 500 thousand in cume for the month of December. OGL added about 70,000. I'd be willing to bet that part of that 500 thousand did not come from another radio station..it was people who don't regularly listen to over the air radio. But when they decided to tune in for Christmas music, it was B 101. Why? Because B has done a terrific job as branding itself as Philly's Christmas station for years. OGL tried a couple years ago..it didn't work. And again this year..minimal success. Congrats to B!

Adding 70K in cume in the shadow of a giant is hardly a failure. Sometimes treading water is the best-case scenario, and sure as heck beats dropping cume.

It's too soon to predict the end of Sports Talk on WPEN-FM. We don't know its demographic ratings. Maybe it's Top 5 among Men 25-54? WiP-AM-FM isn't that far ahead. I haven't heard about any FM Sports Talk station throwing in the towel.

WPHT's ratings were not great either for Philadelphia's top commerical Talk station. But Holiday ratings do not reflect the rest of the year when B101 doesn't have such a large listenership singing Jingle Bells.

OGL didn't lose cume like it did last year. B didn't have the same gains as last year. OGL made the right choice going all Christmas, espeically if they do it yearly. They have no shot at beating B anytime soon, but if they establish themselves as one of Philadelphia's Christmas stations like B did, they can chip away at b a little everyyear.

Much better then sticking with its regular format, and losing 50% of it listeners like it was.

Knowing the way the radio industry works these days, I'm really surprised that nobody is taking those numbers and putting a Christmas format on permanently, even in the middle of August. Hey, it just might do better than the dreck that airs on most stations these days.

Hell, a lot of stores start putting Christmas merchandise on the floor in late September.

Besides with OGL, its a totally different type of Christmas station anyway. That, to me is cool as I prefer oldies Christmas.

950 and 97.5 appear to be staying put as an alternative to 610/94.1. Sports may not pull numbers, but it does seem to bill well.
