The Hot Fm will flip to country

Yes RNS has been attacked before but not from people like Don Curtis and Henry Hinton. Neither one of those guys has ever failed in any of their stations before. Things are about to change in this market. It's going to be fun to watch in my opinion.
This is one thing that's very true that hasn't been brought up. Both tend to run things on the cheap, but neither allow themselves to get beat at their own game. NextMedia isn't going to give WRNS the resources to fight this one.

I hear a big TV blitz is coming and I hope that Thunder does it right. As I have stated before Thunder has the resources and some good people. Now its all about
execution. It will also be interesting to watch WRNS counterpunch. Wayne is a smart guy. Also will all this affect the Bear??? There are alot of factors that should make this an interesting summer...

Now would be a great time for the Bear to repound into the listeners head what they do. Yes there maybe changes in the "Hot "country" landscape and if you enjoy hearing Rascal Flatts 27 times a day we are not the station for you.We are and always will be your home for classic country. Something like that would be cool just to remind people they are classic country loud & proud and remind folks that are are a major player in the country ballgame.
again this is just one idiot's opinion..... mine.....

With the Bear covering classic country and another viable competitor covering new country, WRNS very well could see quite a drop.

I couldn't see the logic in putting country on 96.3/103.7 before, but it's starting to make sense. CHR on the 94's makes no sense, but if it's true they'll get rid of the format things could get interesting...

I have mentioned all of this before. From my vantage point, NM saw all of this coming. They will respond, but not with an all out war attack. MN will fight from the inside. They'll replace pds at both major outlets and bring in one person to handle the situation in a market manger role. Wayne will stick it out and stay in mornings (if he can), Hollywood will lose it (probably go back to APD--he's a good guy I hear) and BOB will go to live mornings. Not the way to win, but it is classic NM.

I had a chance to work in Ral. with this new bunch--cheap operators, but fighters...they spend the money where they want to and right now they want to take a chunk out of NM...

This will be fun to watch from the sidelines! Oh well, back to the car lot.

Boogie On...

Some thoughts on what may happen soon regarding two formats...

1. With the "Hot FM" moving to 94.1 and 94.3, this may be the opportunity for
two "Nextmedia" stations to create a CHR superstation, if that occurs, The Hot
FM will be history, the two that should are "Bob 93.3" and "98.7 Will FM", each
have strong coverage from the Virginia border to the South Carolina Line, and
with one on a 2,000 Foot Tower and another about 1,000 feet not to mention
a combined ERP of 200,000 watts, this may work in their favor.
2. "Thunder Country" which will occupy 96.3 and 103.7, may give 95.1 WRNS
the first serious competition they have faced, with the talent of announcers
from WQDR, WRNS and "The Hot FM", it should be very interesting, stay tuned.

93.3 by itself IS a superstation. They covered everywhere the 96.3/103.7 combo did and then some. 93.3, 95.1, 106.5, and 107.9 all carry very, very far south, two because of their tower placements, the other two because of sheer power and height.

Re two posts up... if NM replaces Wayne Carlyle as WRNS PD they are stupider than I already give them credit for.

that would be awesome. WERO *is* already a superstation in it's own right, but they don't really need the the WILT 98.7 signal unless they want to get a city grade into Wilmington and have coverage for some off shore vessels 90 or so miles out. -on second thought, that could really be of great use there. Z-107.5 just plain sucks.

I drove down to Beaufort a couple of weeks ago and thought things are not right in the universe. The hot fm has always been at 96.3 and 103.7. The hot fm has not been the same for years, but it does get irritating to find out that every station you either grew up on or you remember is going to another format. As my postername will attest to, I grew up listening to Q96 WEQR in Goldsboro, a great Top 40 station. Then in 1989, Don Curtis bought the station and decided to make it Katie Country WKTC. Now, 18 years later, he has bought out another Top 40 station and turned it country with the 96.3 and 103.7 simulcast.

My question is this, how many country stations does North Carolina need? In the area where I live, we have 94.7 WQDR, 95.1 WRNS, 106.1 the Rooster, 99.9 WCMC, 95.7 WKML, and a bunch of other stations that you can hear on the fringes of their signal. For the love of Pete, I hope Curtis Media doesn't buy another radio station in North Carolina. I don't think people want to hear Rascal Flatts or Carrie Underwood 50 times a day. And, Thunder Country does not stand out in the least. They were playing Rascal Flatts and Carrie Underwood with a little Kenny Chesney for good measure. Another country radio station. ::) :(

NEWSFLASH!

Peek at Hot FM's last few books. SOMETHING had to be done! (And they flipped AWAY from Country on other stations to make this happen, so there aren't "more" Country stations now.)

96.3 used to be AC, as Sunny 96. Put that back, and make 93.3 "93DLX" again, while you're at it......

...or just read "Who Moved My Cheese," and learn to adapt.

True, there are no more country signals, but the 96.3 and 103.7 coverage area is a hellava lot stronger than the Greenville to New Bern-Oriental corridor for 94.1-94.3, the former "Hank" stations.

Was 96.3 AC? I thought the format changed to Hot when it changed frequency from 95.9 to 96.3.

As recently as 2001, there was still a weather beaten old billboard near Indian Beach promoting "Sunny 95.9"

It's a very sad situation and the people to blame are Archway Broadcasting. They hired people who did some very shady things, micromanaged, consolidated and destroyed that station.

Archway has a habit of turning everything they touch into junk and end up selling it for less then what they paid for it...lol they lose money on every station they buy.

The consultants they hire, have a major role in destroying and taking advantage of those situations.

Myself and others who use to work there are helping in a major investigation of Archway Broadcasting. We've been contacted on numerous occasions from 4 different government officials. Archway thinks a contract being signed under distress will keep them safe...guess what? It's not....Hi Kathy! Hi Bill! Hi Everyone who had a role in one of the biggest plugola/payola scandals in the history of radio...HI! You won't ever forget me! I hope you have friends that will visit you in jail and bring you contraband to protect yourselves from the other inmates. Rape is not a fun thing, It's time for you guys to turn on each other and throw each other under the buses and pass the buck. Who will be the first to blow the whistle and work a deal out with the feds? My bets are on Bill!
