You're right. WFAN did have the right to fire him. I guess what I am trying to say is that up until this point that CBS has essentially protected his right to free speech cause they've let him say a whole lot worse stuff about christians, jews and other ethnic groups than blacks. I mean, for God's sake, Les Moonves did not say anything about the deal for almost a week. He didn't say anything about it until almost a week had come and gone, along with several key sponsors. ESPN's Colin Cowherd put it best when he said that the firing was nothing but CBS putting their finger in the air to see which way the wind was blowing. Absolute hypocrisy.
What they were saying is that "nappy headed hos" was okay until enough sponsors said otherwise. Either it was wrong when he said it or it wasn't! The right to free speech has been usurped by advertisers. And not just on radio or other media outlets. When they have enough power to get a radio personality fired, it does have an impact on our individual liberties because these Fortune 500 companies like GM already have a huge impact on our lives. Quite frankly, I don't want General Motors deciding what I can or can't listen to, which, like it or not, was what happened with the "Imus Affair."
Sorry, but it's true.
BTW, I am glad to hear that Mancow is now on in this market. Should've happened a long time ago.
